Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Peters.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Eight years ago, I found myself starting over. I was a newly divorced single mother with two young boys, trying to figure out how to rebuild a life I never expected to lose. After spending years as a stay-at-home mom, I had to rediscover who I was, what I was capable of, and how I would provide for my family.
I earned my real estate and esthetics licenses, started businesses from the ground up, and learned that resilience is built one difficult day at a time. Along the way, I faced financial challenges, family struggles, and more setbacks than I can count, but I refused to let those experiences define my future.
In 2024, I took one of the biggest risks of my life and purchased a struggling formalwear boutique, which I rebranded as Promise Dress. What started as a business venture became something much bigger. Every day, I have the opportunity to help young women see themselves as beautiful, confident, and worthy of celebrating.
Today, I am a proud single mom, business owner, and advocate for breaking generational cycles. My journey hasn’t been about avoiding hardship—it’s been about choosing to keep moving forward despite it. If my story proves anything, it’s that some of the most beautiful chapters begin when you have the courage to start over.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. In many ways, the challenges are what shaped both me and my business.
Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced financial uncertainty, long hours, and the pressure that comes with being responsible for every aspect of a business. But my journey also included rebuilding my life as a single mother after divorce, navigating family challenges, and learning how to create stability for my children while building a career from the ground up.
There were plenty of moments when it would have been easier to give up. Owning a small business means constantly adapting, solving problems, and making difficult decisions. I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding obstacles—it’s about continuing to move forward despite them.
Looking back, the struggles taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and empathy. They gave me a deeper appreciation for the people I serve and a stronger sense of purpose. While I certainly wouldn’t call it a smooth road, I wouldn’t change the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
There were times when I was raising two boys on my own, trying to keep a business afloat, and wondering how I was going to make everything work. Those moments taught me that I was stronger than I ever realized.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a small business owner, entrepreneur, and single mother who wears a lot of hats. I own Promise Dress, a formalwear boutique in West Chester, where I help young women celebrate some of life’s biggest moments, and Bare All, a mobile spray tanning business focused on helping clients feel confident in their own skin.
Much of what I do centers around confidence, transformation, and connection. Whether it’s helping a teenager find her dream prom dress, giving someone that extra boost of confidence before a special event, or sharing my experiences online, I love helping people see themselves in a new light.
I also share the realities of entrepreneurship, motherhood, and rebuilding after adversity. My journey has taught me that resilience isn’t about having an easy path—it’s about continuing to move forward, even when the road gets difficult. Through my businesses and social media platforms, I hope to inspire others to believe that it’s never too late to reinvent themselves and create a life they love.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is watching people step into confidence. Whether it’s a young woman finding the perfect dress for prom, a client leaving a spray tan appointment feeling amazing, or one of my sons accomplishing something they’ve worked hard for, I love seeing people recognize their own worth and potential.
I’m also happiest in life’s simple moments—watching a sunset, spending time with my boys, laughing with friends, or having a meaningful conversation with someone who truly understands me. After experiencing my share of challenges, I’ve learned not to take those moments for granted.
I firmly believe that happiness comes from within. For a long time, I think many of us are taught to look for happiness in achievements, relationships, or circumstances, but I’ve learned that true happiness is a choice and an inside job. Life will always have challenges, but peace comes from knowing who you are, what you value, and being grateful for the life you’re building.
At the end of the day, happiness for me comes from connection, growth, gratitude, and knowing that I’ve made a positive impact on someone’s life, even in a small way.
