Rising Stars: Meet Laura Orrico of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Orrico.

Hi Laura, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career as a professional actress and model began when I was just 14! Although I was the shyest little girl, I knew I had to do something to come out of my shell as this was my dream! So after I graduated college – I went to Columbia College Chicago for TV Writing and Producing and minored in Acting – I went to Second City Chicago where I took classes and even did a few performances – to this day I create them to much of my success in in my acting career!

In 2002 I moved to L.A I have been seen in a multitude of network TV shows and both indie and feature films!  After 12 years in L.A. we moved back to Chicago, where I took some time away to care for my sick husband, who was battling brain cancer. He sadly passed in 2015 after an 8-year battle. I would go on to carry on his legacy and his wishes to do my best to keep thriving.  In 2016 I started a national PR firm – based in Chicago – called Laura Orrico Public Relations, LLC. To this day I have continued my acting career as well.

In February of 2026 I had a beautiful baby girl at 49 years old, after years of struggles and miscarriages. I was able to use my late husband’s sperm via IVF to have her. Baby is blessed with her angel daddy looking over her and also her daddy here, my boyfriend Dave, who started out as my best friend and never left my side. I feel very blessed with my sweet little family.

My mother also lives with us, and she battles the rare combination of both Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s diseases and the baby has been such a huge blessing to her! We take care of mom at home, so I have a lot on my plate. We just recently we started bringing on care to help with her every day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been a lot of struggles. My mom was diagnosed with MS when I was three, and then my dad passed of a sudden heart attack at only 46 when I was just 9 and my mom was only 38 – same age I would be widowed at years later. Then My husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007 just 8 years into our relationship (met in ’99 and married in ’04) yet passed after a long 98 year battle in 2015 — one month after my great Aunt Bea, who was like another mother to me. I suffered 4 devastating miscarriages when Ryan was alive and one year after his passing. I was in a few long-term, and some very difficult relationships that did not work out. So much stress but somehow, I persevered and made it through to where I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for being a versatile actress, from dramas like my CSI: Miami Guest Star role to guest star roles on a multitude of sitcoms; I have also worked extensively in comedy. From my own viral videos to my series regular role on TBS’s Frank TV, I am known for a variety of comedy characters and impressions, which actually led me to be considered for Saturday Night Live years back! I think what sets me apart is that people don’t look at me and expect me to be funny, and then they are surprised by the silly characters and impressions I am capable of portraying! For example, iconic comedy director David Zucker (Airplane!, Naked Gun 1, 2 & 3, Scary Movie 3, 4 & 5) hired me to play Barbara Boxer, where I was aged 40 years to portray and impersonate her in a comedy short he produced. No one knew it was me and it got millions of views! My next career goal is to star or co-star in films for Netflix, Hallmark, Lifetime, Amazon, etc!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking should always be genuine and come from your heart as it is all about relationship building. Then from the new friendships and relationships – great opportunities and partnerships can develop!
