Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Divel.
Hi Chad, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I would rather not bore with a chronological timeline of events. Instead I’ll leave you a brief summary with a thought at the end.
I credit my success to being surrounded by so many unique and supportive people. Beginning with childhood those thoughtful words of encouragement had kindled a fire within. It was there within my creative focus that I found myself while disappearing into the depths of imagination. I feel it was my obsessive dedication to detail that had clearly set me apart and others quickly noticed. Throughout public school everyone labeled it talent but I am very aware that these things did not come easily or without their cost. Which begs the question of whether you are blessed with it or are you cursed ? It’s my belief that if you are lucky you will find that you are both. This is how my path found me. Revealed as direction through my reception. Driven by an ardent desire to be rewarded for these difficult travels with some deeper sense of purpose. All the while knowing the only one real goal to achieve with one’s final destination is self discovery.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As far as the road traveled and its challenges I could write a decalogy on that topic. However I feel it to be more poetic to include a shorter writing of mine.
“ I had my sights set far and wide. A path made by this insatiable hunger inside. On top of mountains where I had buried my pride I lift the bow from my side. I watched the arrow disappear beyond the site of eye into the abyss of eternal sky. I screamed aloud let it land where all evil hides. And make it my new path regardless of what challenges may rise. As I marched on through cold storms and darkened skies, I came to realize the more my soul cheated death the more I longed for my demise. And right as I suffered through the intimacy of my defeat what do my eyes see ? My broken arrow to be retrieved. It lay in two at the base of the largest of trees and that was where the secret was revealed to me. None should shoot blindly to find what they seek. Always set your sights on your target before pulling arrow to cheek and know that you are the archer.“ Divel
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Multifaceted, Multi-skilled, Mixed Mediums, Multi-instrumentalist, Magician and Comedian. All jokes aside I am deeply baffled with how or why when my hands are applied to things such magic happens. It is as if these skills were always there, buried beneath the layers of the remains of a thousand souls. One only needs the patience, strength and stomach to dig through. To that note a fear of not getting your hands dirty is crucial. Getting my hands dirty with everything I can is exactly what I intend to do with whatever time I am blessed to have to work with.
Of course in the forefront of all my creative endeavors since 1994 is tattooing. I am extremely grateful for my early start. Having seen it grow and evolve to its respected and accepted form of artistic expression that it is today is remarkable. To have a daily practice of all different types of commissioned ideas from my clients over the years has definitely helped with my diversity as an artist. Not to mention expanding my appreciation of so many different styles. It is finding that beauty in those challenges and how they are intertwined as one that never ceases to inspire. I like to think one will see that combination within my works. Not to diminish those times that I may need to get something horrifying out of my system too. Balance is definitely key, especially if you’re like me and want to master everything.
What matters most to you?
Progression is what matters most to me. Not just solely with my creative endeavors, more as my progression as a person. Everything I have learned is through my experiences and the only thing that matters to me deeply is my progress as this student of life.
