Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Hinton.
Hi Ben , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was 26, I sustained a traumatic brain injury January on January 9th, 2013. My wife and I were engaged, and our wedding was for July 13, 2013. In 2012 I had signed up to run my first half marathon. I made a choice to run that half marathon only 8 coming home from the hospital. The moment to commit and run the Pittsburgh half started to transform my life, thanks to the grace of God. Ever since that pivotal decision I encourage people to Let faith Grow and be encouraged everyday. Over the course from 2013-2023 I ran races from the 5k to the full marathon. I shared my life lessons in my first book Let faith Grow Running Through Adversity, released in the summer of 2023. I tell people now, run your race full circle with Christ and not in circles. Now I am 40 years old, and my amazing wife and I have two amazing daughters. I still run, but more importantly I get to be a present husband and father. All glory to God. I get to show up as a keynote speaker and collaborate using Let Faith Grow message for organizations, churches, athletes and share the message.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road, and it never will be, but we can be rest assured that The Lord is with us every step of the way (Psalm 119:105). I had to go to outpatient brain rehabilitation for over a year. I cognitive test scored me at 3rd grade math and reading level in 2014. I endured 2 eye infections that almost took my vision permanently as an adult. I have had some financial issues, I walked away from coaching basketball, working in a school district at a job I loved. I have been in and out physical therapy. The struggle is showing up with stewardship over striving. The biggest for all of us is showing up with imposter syndrome or show up with my identity secured in Christ.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a keynote speaker with my message Let faith Grow. I help led several Christian Networking groups in the Pittsburgh region. I am available for do workshops for organizations, churches, and teams to share my message that your obstacles are your opportunities for growth. I also offer 1-1 coaching to help other Christian’s live authentically in their identity and purpose. I am known for my key phrases; Pivot Over Panic, Let Faith Grow; Show up with the Passion of Christ, rather than the Pressure to perform”. I love to network with people and connecting others. If I can’t help others, I love pointing them to who can help them.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories that comes to mind is when the Pittsburgh Steelers won the 1995 AFC Championship game. It was the first time a favorite professional team was playing in a championship game. Celebrating that win with both my grandparents still alive is a memory I will never forget.
