Rising Stars: Meet Amy of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy.

Amy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career began at just 18, after completing cosmetology school and moving to Boston to study aesthetics. Once licensed, I began working in hair and makeup for photo shoots and film throughout the greater Boston area. After signing with an agent, I was offered an incredible opportunity with Estée Lauder as a national makeup artist, focusing primarily on Nordstrom locations along the West Coast.

After nearly five years of traveling, I moved to New York City to pursue more editorial and film work. There, I discovered my niche in eyebrow shaping and makeup artistry, which ultimately led me to train in permanent makeup in 2005.

In 2007, I opened my first studio on 66th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan, offering eyebrow shaping, makeup lessons, and permanent makeup. After marrying and starting a family, we relocated to the Pocono region in 2014. My original plan was to work in Manhattan two days a week while spending the rest of my time raising my young son—but I quickly recognized a need for these specialized services in Milford, Pennsylvania, particularly among the many New York City transplants in the area.

I began by renting a single room inside a local salon. Within a year, the business expanded into a three-room suite in a medical building, and two years later, we moved to Harford Street in the heart of downtown Milford. Today, our three-story location operates as a full medical spa under the direction of our medical director and an exceptional medical and aesthetic team, and I just recently celebrated 20 years in business!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Was it a smooth road? About as smooth as the Delaware River during a monsoon\!

There have always been obstacles along the way, from finding the right staff members…people who are committed, passionate, and genuinely excited about their careers, to navigating the many logistical demands of running a business. Forming the business, establishing an S corporation, managing taxes, securing permits, and handling all the fine print are essential, but they are not exactly where I thrive as an artist. Thankfully, I have a wonderful business manager who helps me navigate those details and makes sure nothing slips through the cracks.

There have been plenty of roadblocks, but there have also been countless successes. Building something meaningful takes hard work, persistence, and a willingness to keep moving forward when things get complicated. Anything worth having usually does—and I’ll gladly take it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an esthetician and permanent makeup artist, and permanent makeup has been my specialty for the past 20 years. I specialize in creating beautifully shaped eyebrows, eyeliner, and lip blushing, with a focus on enhancing each client’s natural features.

I also truly love providing paramedical tattooing for breast cancer survivors and patients with scarring from surgeries. This work is especially meaningful to me because it allows me to help clients restore confidence and feel more comfortable in their bodies. I work closely with many referring physicians, and when I’m not at Aesthetic 212 in Milford caring for my clients, I continue to see clients at my Park Avenue location in New York City.

As a business owner, I would say my specialty is curating a professional, welcoming space where clients love to come and feel as though they are part of a beauty community. We offer top-notch services while staying on the pulse of cutting-edge, preventative aesthetic treatments. Creating an environment that combines expertise, innovation, and genuine care is at the heart of everything I do.

Any big plans?
At this point in my career, I’m focused on maintaining the foundation that has consistently worked for the past 20 years: providing exceptional customer service and high-quality treatments that keep our clients coming back year after year—and, even better, bringing their friends and family to us through referrals.

Rather than making major changes, my goal is to continue refining and strengthening the experience we provide. I plan to remain focused on personalized care, beautiful and natural-looking results, and the welcoming environment we have created at Aesthetic 212.I will also continue staying informed about advancements in permanent makeup, paramedical tattooing, and preventative aesthetic treatments so that we can thoughtfully offer services that truly benefit our clients.

Most importantly, I want to preserve the trust we have built with our clients and referring physicians while continuing to serve our community with the same professionalism, consistency, and genuine care that have guided me throughout my career.
