Rising Stars: Meet Alahji DáQuan of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alahji DáQuan.

Hi Alahji, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Alahji DáQuan, an independent hip-hop and R&B artist from New York City currently residing in between New York & Pennsylvania. I started out singing in my local church children’s choir then the adult Gospel Chorus. Although journaling since young, I began writing music and poetry in high school. I was taught poetry by my writing teacher Sarah Finley. I began releasing music for myself in 2023, building my sound one song at a time and learning how to bring that same energy to the stage. My music draws on confidence, self-expression, and the experiences that have shaped me.

Since then, I’ve released projects including my “Metamorphosis” EP , and songs like “Fashion Killa” and “Sweet Love (Vibe Wit’ Me.” Performing has become a major part of my journey. I’ve opened for artists including T.I., DaBaby, and Saucy Santana, while continuing to grow my audience and develop a live show that blends music, movement, and style.

I’ve come a long way as an independent artist, and I’m proud of the recognition and listeners I’ve gained along the way. I’m still building, still finding new ways to express myself, and working toward bringing my music to bigger stages and new audiences.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As an independent artist, I’ve had to learn how to do more than make music. I’m also responsible for promoting my work, building relationships, planning performances, and finding the resources to bring my ideas to life. It can be challenging to get your music in front of new listeners and keep moving forward when progress takes time.

Balancing music with work and other responsibilities has also tested me. There have been setbacks and moments when I’ve had to rethink my approach, but I keep reminding myself why I started. I’ve learned to be patient, stay consistent, and keep developing as an artist. Every challenge has taught me something that I bring into the next song, performance, or opportunity.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent hip-hop and R&B artist known for bringing a bold, high-energy feel to both my music and live performances. My sound is rooted in confidence and self-expression, and onstage I combine it with choreography, dancers, and strong visuals to make each performance feel like an experience.

I’m most proud of building my career independently from releasing my first music in 2023 to earning more than 95,000 streams, winning the Most InnaStar Trailblazer Awards in History. Winning People’s Choice Best Hip-Hop/R&B/Rap Artist at the 2025 Steamtown Music Awards, a slew of nominations and wins and opening for artists including T.I., DaBaby, and Saucy Santana. I’ve also continued developing my own sound through projects like Metamorphosis and through collaborations with fellow music artists.

What sets me apart is the full vision I bring to my work. I care about the music, the performance, and the way an audience feels when they see me. I want people to leave knowing they experienced something personal, expressive, and unmistakably Alahji DáQuan. I feel like my work ethic speaks for itself. I love to go out there and show the world that the work I put in isn’t just for fun. I breathe music and entertainment.

Any big plans?
My focus is on continuing to release music and grow my audience beyond the North East. I’m working on new material my sophomore project “333” will be coming very soon just in time for the holidays and looking forward to bringing it to life through strong visuals and live performances that give people a real sense of who I am as an artist.

I’d also love to perform in more cities, reach new listeners, and keep building toward a tour. I’d love to embark on a tour city to city state to state. If it’s headlining my own tour or opening up for an established artist. I want to tour. I want to grow my career while staying independent and intentional about the music and experiences I create. If a record deal comes it has to make sense. There’s a lot ahead, and I’m excited to see where the work takes me. I’m just enjoying the ride.
