Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Macaluso.
Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story started back in college, I was originally a Neuroscience Major at a small science college. Two years in I decided to switch to Music Business and Audio engineering. While in college I toured in a metalcore band circa 2008 at the peak of the metalcore scene, we were signed to a small label and a management label and toured for a few years while recording at a popular studio in DC. I was in school and living the musician life while building the base of my career that would turn into over a decade career in the Music Industry. I owned a small 600 capacity music venue for awhile and booked national touring bands while doing live sound engineering at other local areas venues. After a few years I began to move into the production side of the industry, and opened a studio and screen printing shop called Rock Mill Industries with a few other local notable musicians and industry friends. We produced music, video, merch, and live shows for central Pa and national musicians. I began to pivot into video production and marketing, brand building and entrepreneurship as I saw the industry pivoting. Today I work fulltime in media & marketing for real estate investors, and run a media buyer agency that manages high ticket Google and Meta ads, while also doing bespoke brand building and business growth. I’m a media and marketing wizard, with skills spanning Python coding and deep computer skills, to audio engineering and building drones. During this time I also got into specialized drone videography, building my own drones, and developing specialized flying skills within FPV drones for commercial cinematography. I was also a globally sponsored pilot in the world of Freestyle FPV, and worked for one of the biggest RC radio electronics companies in China as a marketing director.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the music industry nothing is smooth, and pivoting requires a lot of trailblazing. Figuring out how to build a career myself is something that came naturally, building and engineering the systems to run a business and the styling and associated marketing took many years of constant study and learning.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I produce aerial videography that not many people are capable of capturing. In 2015 I entered the fresh and new world of FPV drones, and pioneered the expansion of the niche and hobby as an influencer and drone engineer with systems that were rudemenatary and not developed back then. Today FPV is a massive hobby and professional tool for videographer, and I was on the forefront of the movement.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of course, and when my parents gave me my first video camera that recorded to VhS, which I used to film my friends mountain biking.
