Hi Ryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Me and my business Partner Darnell Fuson took over the club in January of 2026, as the current owner works to find a location to start up a second club.
The club has been running for 7-8 years now, providing quality entertainment to the small market of Hanover, PA
We love the idea of this small club being a stepping stone for fresh talent to flourish,
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When the club first started, covid almost stopped the dream in its tracks. But through cooperation with a few outdoor venues, The Church was able to succeed even through lockdown restrictions.
PA’s liquor license laws, mainly the drastic expense to obtain one compared to other states, have also limited upside revenue. Yet our community has supported us in a way that we can easily keep this haven for the arts running strong.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our club is like no other in the country. The layout of the room gives you a tight, intimate experience with every act while you enjoy the show from your pew seat. Regardless of whether we have a sold-out crowd or just a few folks on a slower summer night, it’s an electrifying experience; I’ve never seen anywhere else. It’s truly something people have to see for themselves, because it is genuinely hard to explain and give it justice.
The atmosphere and community around the club (built by Jim Byran the original owner) are the main reason Darnell and I took on this venture: Just to be a part of something so special and to expand this experience to more locations in the future.
How do you think about happiness?
Community, because at the end of the day, regardless of your personal achievement, all that’s really important is the people around us who we get to share these wonderful moments with. That’s something we strive for here at the club. Many of the comics in the community produce their own shows and return even after finding great success comedically. It’s always an honor when the comic who had their first headlining show with us returns after routinely doing large clubs and theaters. All because they love the community we have here and are grateful for their first big break.
