Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Heidt.
Hi Rebecca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was labled as a weird person growing up. I feel too much, I look too deep into things, I have weird ideas, so on and so on. Through adulthood I’ve learned to see the patterns in everything and find unique stories behind different experiences. I’ve learned to adapt that to business and creative projects. Story telling runs in my blood with my grand parents being well known actors and in theatre. I have since had a very successful career in business, people, writing/publishing my book series “Acceptance” and my script writing (info found on IMDB) which have won several awards. I still feel and see deeply, but now use the uniqueness and write around them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an Indie artist is only full of struggles. Of people telling me I can’t do things my way, that what I’m doing isn’t good enough or I don’t have important enough people on my projects to catch attention. I’ve also had friends who were excited for me but jealous of my ambition and awards. Recently, the more successful I’ve been I’ve had people intentionally try to befriend me/learn information and use it against me to derail my goals. The world is messy and can be extremely disloyal. I work on my projects and to reach my goals despite how my success makes other people feel. Because I do this for me and not for them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in painting, book writing, scripts, film, and life coaching. People know me most for my positive attitude, willingness to help other indie artists trying to create, and working my way through problems to find solutions. I’m most proud of the team I’ve developed behind each project because they’re passionate like me but from so many backgrounds and countries. What sets me apart from others is my unwillingness to give up. I also keep the main element of fun a top priority for any one of my projects. Yes, it’s all business but it doesn’t need to be just that. I enjoy what I do and I love how it can bring others together.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see book writers and film industries going significantly more towards Indie artists. There’s a raw element that comes from the authenticity of Indie artists that usually doesn’t exist. I think it has to do with the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into completing each product. I’m not saying the resources, massive income, and marketing that comes with main stream books publishing and film production houses wouldn’t be just as good. But you don’t have to sacrifice your rights to the projects, or change the story to fit an executives opinion, or deal with as much judgement from a team that is supposed to be helping you be successful. All those things can happen as Indie artist, just less because we’re in control of the narrative.
