Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Raptapolus.
Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in the beauty industry through a vocational program while still in high school, which gave me an early foundation and clear direction for my career. After graduating, I started as an assistant, where I developed both technical skills and a deep understanding of the salon environment.
I then transitioned into a chain salon, where I spent 15 years growing not only as a stylist, but as a leader. During that time, I became passionate about mentorship and hiring and developing assistants and guiding them into confident, successful stylists on the salon floor.
In 2015, I was presented with the opportunity to purchase a local salon, which became a pivotal moment in my career. After renovating the space, I opened The Color Bar Beauty Salon in November 2015. I brought with me a team of five stylists I had personally trained, which allowed us to build a strong, cohesive culture from day one.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, and I think that’s true for any business built over time. One of the early challenges was learning how to navigate staff turnover, which is very common in the salon industry. That experience pushed me to become more intentional about building a strong team culture, investing in training, and creating an environment where people feel supported and motivated to grow.
Our most significant challenge came in April 2025, when we experienced a devastating fire that forced us to temporarily close the salon. We lost everything 100% of our space, equipment, and day-to-day operations in an instant. It was an incredibly difficult moment, both personally and professionally, and one that could have easily ended our business.
However, what followed truly defined who we are. Within just two days, we secured a temporary salon location, replaced the essential tools and supplies needed to operate, and were back behind the chair together as a team. At the same time, we began the long process of rebuilding our salon from the ground up.
That experience became a turning point for us. It reinforced the strength of our team, the loyalty of our clients, and the foundation we’ve built as a business. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of both, and it’s because of them that we’ve been able to remain resilient, continue growing, and move forward with even greater purpose.

The Color Bar Beauty Salon is a well-established and highly recognized business within the local community. One of the things that truly sets us apart is that we’ve grown almost entirely through word of mouth, our work speaks for itself, and our clients have always been our greatest form of advertising.

Our team is highly skilled in all aspects of hair color from dimensional, lived-in color to advanced corrective work. While also offering a full range of services including cutting, styling, smoothing treatments, and extensions. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built for both quality and consistency. That’s been reflected in the recognition we’ve received, including Harrisburg Magazine’s Simply the Best awards in 2023 and 2025, along with Reader’s Choice awards in 2019, 2022, and 2024. Those honors are especially meaningful because they come directly from our community and our clients.
What I want readers to know most is that we are deeply committed to delivering an elevated experience, both in the results we provide and the environment we create. Our focus is not just on great hair, but on building lasting relationships, continuously evolving our craft, and maintaining a standard of excellence that keeps clients coming back year after year.
