Meet Mike McNeil of Pursuit Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike McNeil.

Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I went to Penn State for undergrad and graduated from Drexel University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2017. I worked in an out-patient clinic in NJ for the next 2 years. Then, I began work as a travel physical therapist, wanting to see more of the country and gain experience in multiple different settings. I spent 2.5 years living and working in Hawaii, treating with a wide variety of patients. I moved back to PA in the middle of 2022 to be closer to my family.

I worked in a gym for the next 2 years and became frustrated by the standard model of physical therapy. Too often, PT clinics are incentivized to extend care longer than necessary to collect more from their insurance provider. Schedules are often overbooked, limiting the amount of time and attention that each patient can receive. The system rewards the quantity of sessions delivered, as opposed to the quality of care delivered. I found this model often fostered a dependency on the therapist from the patient, limiting their long-term outcomes.

I started Pursuit Physical Therapy in 2024 to deliver a higher level of care. I want to provide a more personalized form of treatment, offering increased time, undivided attention, thorough assessment, and convenient care delivered in the real world. I bring a treatment table and all necessary equipment, meeting my clients in their home, office, gym, or local community. I don’t believe that lasting results are achieved through a short bout of completing specific exercises or a single hands-on stretch or massage technique. Long-term health and fitness is achieved through the habits that we maintain and the lifestyle that supports the outcomes we’re looking to achieve. I emphasize education and sustainable habit change to empower my clients and help them continue to work toward their health and fitness goals, long after we finish working together.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Certainly not a smooth road. I quickly realized that I have a lot of experience as a physical therapist but little knowledge of running a business. I have needed to learn bookkeeping, marketing strategies, website development, equipment maintenance, and, most importantly, how to step away from the endless “to-do” list at the end of each day. It has been an ongoing learning process, and I am always eager to learn more. I’m happy to look back and see how much it has grown from the start. Above all, it has been rewarding to see the difference that this style of care makes for my clients.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Pursuit Physical Therapy is a mobile practice, delivering concierge physical therapy and private personal training to active adults and youth athletes in Lower Montgomery County and the surrounding neighborhoods. Care is delivered in the home, office, or local community, with all necessary equipment brought to each appointment. The process begins with a thorough evaluation, not just assessing the strength, mobility, and coordination, but also looking at lifestyle habits, including daily demands, weekly schedule, sleep hygeine, diet, hydration, and social support. Care plans are designed to support health and fitness from all angles, encouraging an overall healthy lifestyle through proven methods of sustainable habit change. Every session is one-on-one with a physical therapist, followed up with a thorough summary of their visit and updates to their care plan moving forward. Each client is offered a direct line of communication with the physical therapist between appointments, to monitor symptoms, answer questions, and adjust the plan as necessary.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
