Meet Melissa (LYSSA) Taylor of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa (LYSSA) Taylor.

Hi Melissa (LYSSA), thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love of music started very young. I would sit and listen to my grandfather play the guitar and sing, sometimes I would sing with him. Ever the performer, whenever my family had company over, as soon as grandmom said “do that little thing you do”, it was light-camera-action for me..lol. It just grew from there as life went on, open mics, wedding singing, etc. Over the last 7 years or so is when I really took it seriously with encouragement and support from my fiance Donta (DJ Se7en) Taylor. He helped me hone my skills with performance, song writing, and recording, and I now have several songs and features on streaming platforms. We also work side by side running the “Adult Talk Podcast”, 7 Music Management Group, and 7 Indie Music Radio.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road, but what road is smooth when you’re trying to get to what you want? Over the years I’ve definitely dealt with some form or another of negativity. Whether it be somebody stepping on toes, sabotage, disloyalty, or just a plain old haters..but I don’t let it negate my positive experiences. Honestly, I used to get so upset about stuff like that, but it doesn’t bother me as much since someone once told me to “stop expecting ME out of other people”. Now, if I do encounter negative people, I just view it as THEIR problem, and maybe put it in my music..lol

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Besides being a singer/songwriter, I’m also a podcast host, interviewer, video treatment writer, and artist developer. I don’t really specialize in any one particular thing, I just try to constantly learn and improve in everything I do. Although it can get hectic, I love every part of everything I do, from being a low key therapist on the podcast to being able to help other artists find comfortably in stage presence, recording. I think what sets me apart is the fact that I genuinely care..I care about the quality of my own work, I care about giving real helpful advice, and I care about the outcomes for myself and people around me.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
ONE of my most important lessons (and there were many), was learning to be more selective. Selective in who I trusted, who I called a friend, what I invested in, what I gave energy to, ect. Just protecting my peace, sanity, and integrity.
