Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsey Maisey.
Hi Lyndsey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
24+ years in the beauty industry. From shampoo assistant at my mother’s salon at 13 to cosmetology teacher at Jean Madeline. Manager at multiple salons in Philadelphia. A few new career paths in between all of that time. My last full time job before opening my private headspa was at a barbershop. It was probably my favorite job in my entire career. However, There was no room for growth and no future I found myself hitting another wall of uncertainty in my life.
In 2014 I had to rebuild my life after burning it to the ground in addiction.
Right now it’s 12 years later, and only now am I feeling like I’m getting somewhere.
On my recovery path nothing came easy for me. I had to and still have to work hard for everything I have.
I was getting very frustrated thinking I should be further along in life while all of these other avenues kept leading me to dead ends. Or never felt fulfilling.
In May of 2026 a year after I promised myself that I’d never have another boss again
I found myself at another low point. I almost took a job at another barbershop which was truly a great opportunity.
The man was putting me in his booking app as I left the interview.
The next day I turned him down because that promise I made myself was in bold let’s scrolling through my head. So I reached out and declined the opportunity. Scared that I’d regret it. Every best choice I’ve ever made for myself was a choice I made scared. Maybe 15 minutes after I sent that text I was telling my best friend and we were bouncing next ideas around which we’ve done often. But this time this one was the one.
We were talking about reiki and bringing our healing touch to the world but a way that was different than everyone else.
Then poof a spiritual download came to me.
A reiki infused Headspa. We both clung to this and I think a week later an LLC existed
A week after that we toured my salon suite in Bensalem. We chose an opening date and hit the ground running.
For whatever reason, starting this business felt measurable every step of the way.
Even though there were bumps and hurdles to get to the opening day
God showed me this was my path time and time again and kept walking through with faith and did not give in to the fears.
Shortly before opening loveYou Sacred Spa I found myself opening this beautiful business alone. I was supposed to open with my best friend. (That’s another story for another time.)
I made a tiktok that blew up locally and before I even opened people were booking to come to loveYou Sacred Spa. Social media platforms has been a leg of my business.
I do get customers that find me on Google. Apparently I’m the first headspa that pops up when they search headspa in my area.
It’s just me. It does get lonely. But in this beautiful service I do I find myself in prayer a lot of the day. Praying over the people that come to me. What a blessing it is to be in prayer and meditation everyday while at work. Loving on others and making new connections. Sometimes I forget that.
I recently launched a new service that allows me to be mobile. “Touch therapy”
It’s immediately getting attention. Everyone that’s in the experience says “it reminds me when I was in grade school and we used to take turns playing with eachothers hair”
The services I offer are so nurturing. I did. It expect that. It just kinda happened. and I love it and feel so blessed to offer so much love to everyone.
As I come close to my year of being in business I can’t even believe that I did this. I’ve met so many amazing people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not having a full book.
Not knowing if I was going to make money on certain weeks and pushing content anyway.
Feeling very lonely doing this all alone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner of a private Headspa. This is a luxury shampoo. I have a small space in a suite. Which is just enough for anyone that wants to start their own business.
My headspa service stands out amongst other headspas because I offer a full styled blowdry. Which is not common.
I offer rebooking discounts rather than new customer discounts (although I offer that at times also)
There is a healing that happens in my room. A lot of love and relaxation.
More than half of my customers at this point are regulars. I have people that rebook every month every 3 months (which I believe is the perfect sweet spot) every 6 months
A lot of people probably come back not only from the amazing service, they come for me. I’ve been told that enough to admit it publicly without letting my ego take over.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Surround yourself with people that challenge you. Sit at the table with people that bring out the best in you. Look around, and if you’re sitting at a table that’s gossiping and talking bad of others, ask yourself how this serves you.
I’ve been disappointed by people so much and that’s on me because of having expectations. I’ve learned to observe other and how they actually move.
Although my community is huge and endless My table is very small.
