Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexus Dean.
Hi Lexus, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I learned how to crochet in middle school. I have always been drawn to creating clothes. There was a time period that I stopped crocheting but senior year of highschool I picked up my hook again and haven’t put it down since. My very first fashion show was at my highschool. I made headbands and fun hats. Next was my college Spring fashion show where I created my first collection of clothes. Five pieces inspired by resort wear. I ran a business for 10 years that consisted of custom orders. Then covid happened and I used that time to regroup and decide what was next for Crocheted Couture.; crocheting was no longer fun and I wanted to change that.. In 2023 I put myself I did a show at West Chester University and that’s when it hit me as long as I can create and show my art to the world I am fulfilled.
Now that I have found my groove business wise. I enjoy being able to mark off my bucket list of things the I want to do with Crocheted Couture. For example, ever since I was a kid I wanted to compete in a fashion design competition and I have the privilege if being a competitor in The Stitch Factor; a competition created for fiber artists to come and create clothing base off of fun themes. The theme for this season is Heros VS Villains and I am designing for Villains. .
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle is that people want custom pieces with Shein prices and I am not willing to diminish my craft for a price tag.
This has caused me to focus on selling my hats and shaggy jackets at vending events. This allows me to build inventory and sell it down at these different events and not compromise on my artistic integrity.
The fashion shows are my way of still nurturing that creativity part of me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say that I am know for my use of vibrant colors, my shaggy jackets, and merge of couture and street wear.
My two favorite collection to date are my most recent collections Concrete Rose and my Pride collection. Both of them are ways that I have been able to transform very trauma time periods of my life into something beautiful.

Creative output requires input. If every spare hour is dedicated to producing, your well runs dry. Set firm boundaries around downtime, reading, and personal rest so your creative work remains a source of energy rather than another exhausting chore.
