Meet Jessica Brown of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Brown.

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My first experience with photography was in high school when I took a photography class. I loved taking photos of everything and I found it was my passion. My mom gifted me my own camera for my birthday and that was the real start of my journey. As I continued learning and growing, I met my mentor through work and was provided an opportunity to photograph weddings with her as a second shooter. The experience was everything and my business started growing quickly after that! My clients are the real MVPs and keep my passion going. I love where I am now, photographing couples through their engagement sessions, to weddings, to them starting their own families. It’s so rewarding to provide photos of their most important milestones in life!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning your own business always comes with bumps in the road. My photography was a blessing in my life when I started my family and needed extra income. My husband and I did not have a lot and found out we were expecting our little boy. My business was an essential income to keep us going. After I lost my husband, photography continued to provide me financial stability as a single mother raising a little one. Struggles in life will always come, but you have to hold on to the good things to keep you afloat.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer that provides family portraits, engagement sessions, senior portraits, wedding photography, animal portraits, and anything in between! I am so proud of how much I have learned in the past 10 years since I started photography as a passion project. I think what sets my photography apart from others is the emotion behind the photo. Learning from the losses in my life, I understand that sometimes photographs are the only thing we have of our loved ones and that they are important. I give it my all for any session, no matter what I am photographing because I know that these photos will mean a lot to someone one day.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have learned that everyone has their own story and their own journey. My favorite lesson is that we are all living life for the first time. No one knows all of the answers and it’s ok to not know. Learning is part of the journey, and we should always give others grace. We are never done learning. Treat people with respect and integrity and you have a good start.
