Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Kilp.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a German Club where my grandparents started a Schuhplattler Group and my parents started a children’s dance group. I danced from the time I was 2 and still do currently. I grew into a culinary career and the two paths eventually crossed to help me create a much needed German restaurant in Lancaster.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has mostly been smooth besides not being prepared at all financially to start my own business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in traditional German food. We are the only ones in the area as most German culture was pushed out by propaganda after the wars and also confused with PA Dutch food which is similar but also very different. We are proud to provide meals that remind the guests of time spent in Germany or recipes used by their family members from Germany.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The majority of my networking for came from the German culture I grew up with and the hospitality industry I’ve worked in since I was 16. Traveling all over mid atlantic region as a kid and trying different German food helped me learn and try different styles of the popular dishes.
