I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running a small business is never easy. Between the constant hustle, navigating pushback from other industry professionals, staying on top of everyday life, and continuing to put yourself out there, there are challenges at every turn. But I truly believe that through prayer, perseverance, and being intentional about the path you are creating, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Ross Allen Design is approaching two years in business, and I couldn’t be more grateful that I took that leap of faith and started my own company. After nearly five years in the interior design industry, building something of my own has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career. One of the biggest challenges of owning a design business is staying relevant in an industry that is constantly evolving. Design trends change, technology continues to advance, and the way clients discover and connect with designers is always shifting. For me, growth means never becoming complacent. I’m constantly learning about new design styles, materials, technology, rendering techniques, and innovative ways to serve my clients. I’m also focused on expanding my network, building relationships with builders, architects, vendors, and other industry professionals, strengthening my online presence, showcasing my work through photography and social media, and finding new opportunities to get Ross Allen Design in front of a broader audience. I’ve learned that growing a business isn’t just about getting more clients. It’s about building a recognizable brand, creating meaningful relationships, delivering an exceptional client experience, continuing your education, and being willing to adapt when the industry changes. There will always be setbacks, rejection, competition, and days when you question whether you’re doing enough. But those moments are part of the journey. I’m incredibly proud of how far Ross Allen Design has come, and I’m even more excited about where it’s going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What makes Ross Allen Design different?
In an industry filled with talented designers, I’ve always believed that standing out isn’t about simply following trends it’s about bringing something different to the table.
At Ross Allen Design, I’ve built my business around one thing: bringing ideas to life.
Whether you’re a homeowner with a vision, an architect developing a concept, a builder trying to help a client visualize the finished space, or a fellow designer who needs an extra set of hands, I’m here to help take the idea from concept to something you can actually see.
My services extend beyond traditional interior design.
Full-Service Interior Design
From initial concepts and space planning to material selections, cabinetry, furnishings, lighting, art, sourcing, and project coordination, I help create cohesive spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
Photorealistic 3D Renderings
For architects, builders, designers, and homeowners, I create detailed renderings that allow you to visualize a space before construction begins. Being able to see the finished product can make all the difference when making design decisions, presenting a project to a client, or marketing a property.
Design Development & Visualization
I can help transform architectural drawings and concepts into compelling visual presentations, giving clients a better understanding of scale, materials, finishes, lighting, and the overall design direction.
What I believe sets Ross Allen Design apart is the ability to see the big picture while focusing on the details. I understand that great design isn’t just about making a beautiful image. It’s about understanding how a space functions, how it will be built, how materials work together, and how to communicate that vision clearly.
I’m also passionate about collaboration. I want to work alongside architects, builders, contractors, and other designers—not compete with them. Sometimes the best projects happen when everyone brings their expertise to the table.
As Ross Allen Design approaches two years in business, I’m continuing to expand, learn, collaborate, and find new ways to bring exceptional design to clients and industry professionals across the country.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I never really knew what I wanted to do. I just knew I was creative. I was always the kid building something, taking things apart, imagining how something could be different, or trying to figure out how to fix a problem. Looking back, I realize I was always thinking like a designer without even knowing it. I have always enjoyed looking at something and asking myself, “How can this be better?” It was not until later that I discovered interior design, and suddenly all of those things I naturally gravitated toward started to make sense. Design allowed me to combine everything I loved: creativity, problem solving, architecture, materials, technology, and most importantly, creating something that did not exist before. I started my career in kitchen and bath design, where I learned the importance of detail, functionality, and understanding how people actually live in their spaces. From there, I continued expanding my knowledge into space planning, cabinetry, architectural drawings, 3D modeling, rendering, materials, construction, and full service interior design. Over time, I realized I did not just want to design beautiful rooms. I wanted to understand the entire process. I wanted to know how a space would be built, how all of the details came together, and how I could communicate a vision to a client before construction even began. That led me to develop a passion for photorealistic 3D rendering and visualization, allowing me to take an idea, sometimes nothing more than a sketch, floor plan, or conversation, and turn it into something a client can actually see. Eventually, I decided to take everything I had learned and start Ross Allen Design. Starting my own business has pushed me in ways I never expected. I have had to learn how to be a designer, business owner, marketer, salesperson, project manager, and everything in between. There have been challenges, setbacks, uncertainty, and plenty of moments where I have had to figure things out as I go, but there have also been incredible opportunities to work with amazing clients, collaborate with architects and builders, create spaces I am proud of, and watch an idea become something real. Looking back, I do not think I ever needed to know exactly what I wanted to do growing up. I think I was already becoming the designer I am today. The kid who was always building, imagining, creating, and solving problems never really went away. I just finally found a career where all of those things had a place. And I am still just getting started.
