Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikkia Tanisha.
Hi Nikkia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Comedian NikkiaTanisha born Nikkia Stewart in the small town of Farrell, Pennsylvania, she is a mother of three, has been doing comedy for the last 10 years although her mother said she’s been funny since she got here! She believes her greatest accomplishment is opening up for Slick Rick in the summer of 2017! Since then Nikkia has featured for Comedian/Actress Cocoa Brown, Won her audition for Chocolate Sundaes, where she will be performing on the world famous Laugh Factory in Hollywood. The comedian will also be on season 13 of Kenan Thompson’s “Kenan Presents The Ultimate Comedy Showcase” and has had the opportunity of sharing the stage with George Wallace, Luenell, Rodney Perry, as well many others! I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! I came from absolute poverty and I now speak on stage about being a hood rat in recovery. It was a generational curse because my mother lived in the projects and raised us there, and I mimicked that same path until I had my second child and decided to change my life.
I became a CNA and then went to nursing school. I finished, but I ended up marrying a very abusive man, had another child, and left him I had nothing in 2013. He even took our baby, but I fought hard and got her back. I even had a heart attack while fighting in court; it was so hard! However, in 2015, I got paid for comedy for the first time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently work with the power company. I turn your lights off and on that is my 9 to 5 and my 5 to 9 will always be Comedy. I love traveling the country making people laugh.
