Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Meano.
Hi Max, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Max Meano was born in Plainfield NJ and moved to Bethlehem PA at the age of 5. He always had an interest in the arts, showing a passion in all artistic forms of expression in the hip hop culture. From break dancing, DJing, MCing and graffiti, to producing beats, recording and mixing. In high school he took up commercial arts to expand on his graffiti, art and digital design. After stepping back from graffiti and art for a while to pursue music more effectively, he received an Associates Degree in the Radio/TV program at Northampton Community college in Bethlehem PA, specializing in audio production and multimedia; then received a Bachelors Degree in Music Technology at Mercy College in White Plains NY, specializing in audio engineering and production . After graduation and the realizations of the reality of the music industry, he gravitated back to the arts, focusing on graffiti and the full wall production aspect of the game. This included graffiti video productions, solo wall productions(including a huge mural for the Bushwick Collective in NYC), 2 collaboration walls on Zulu Nation headquarters throughout NYC and multiple murals throughout Allentown and Bethlehem PA. He’s done graffiti lectures at Lehigh University and live painting at The Allentown Art Museum. He created a ‘Welcome To The Southside” mural on 3rd St. in Bethlehem PA for Lehigh University, and design the MiLB logo for the Lehigh Valley Coquis, for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. He’s also the curator for the Allentown Artsfest Graffiti Jam. He has canvas work on display at the Alternative Gallery in Allentown PA and has a number of other murals and showings lined up at galleries and venues in the near future. In 2018 he began his apprenticeship at EB Tattoo in East Stroudsbug PA . There he worked for over 2 Years and honed his skills as a tattoo artist. Then opened up Max Meano Tattoo in 2020. Since then he’s done many tattoo conventions such as the Philadelphia Tattoo Convention and the New York Empire State Tattoo Expo in NYC, as well as many New large murals including the exterior of the Moxy Hotel, interior of the Okatshe sushi bar and the Path off Hamilton in Allentown PA as well as many others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every road has its obstacles. I just enjoy the journey. I’ve had many set backs along the way but I treat them all as a learning lesson and try to find the positive in all negative situations as much as I can. I believe everything is meant to be as it is in most situations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well I first became know for my graffiti work which evolved into murals. I’ve done a lot of spray paint work all over the us and Puerto Rico. And painted in festivals and organized a Graffiti Jam as part of Allentown Artsfest. After a major injury I got while painting, while I was bed ridden for almost a year, I started finally working on tattoo designs and working towards getting an apprentiship. Once I got better I landed one and started my tattoo journey while also continuing to paint murals. From there I’ve kinda got known for my tattoos just as much as my murals. I’ve done many large tattoo and participated in many tattoo conventions including the Philadelphia tattoo convention which is one of if not the largest tattoo convention in the world. I definitly bring a different style to tattooing with my background in graffiti as well as a strong black and grey portfolio and I’m always looking to improve and try new things.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I learned is there’s no replacement for hard work. Hard work brings the talent and hard work helps you bring that talent to the world. It’s not always easy but it def pays off.
