Life & Work with Colt Williams of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colt Williams.

Hi Colt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I used to post on internet forums back in the day (wow, I sound old) where we used to type out battle raps to each other in the chats. One day one of my guys on the site made a beat and was like ” Yo Colt, I got a track I want you to get on. Get a mic and write something and record it.” So I went up 69th Street later that day, brought one of those cheap Sony karaoke mics and been doing this ever since.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a wild journey meeting new people, suffering loss, heartbreak, dealing with self-doubt, and just doing my best to come through it on the other side with a different mindset and positive outlook. I’m just focused on blocking out the noise and making music that people will enjoy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I typically try to tell a story with my projects. Like LAJ and LAJ 2 I’m telling a personal story that I hope can help someone else out there.

In LAJ I focused on learning how to HEAL. You get Hurt by something or someone, you have to learn to Evolve from it, then once you finally Accept that what happened happened and you did all you could, you can now Live and move on from it.

However, in LAJ 2 it’s a little more aggressive as we have to learn how to RISE from that. Remember the things you went through, I (Lights down) is to think about what part you played in your situation, then to think about all of the things you Sacrificed to get here, and how when Everything is lost, there is a chance for rebirth.

I haven’t solidified what the third in the trilogy will be, but I’ve got some ideas.

What makes you happy?
Being in the studio recording or writing music. It’s like I can break away to a new dimension or something I can’t describe. It’s always a fun time watching how songs come together and being a part of it. From the initial spark that comes to you whenever you hear a sound, to putting those words and ideas to paper, to watching it all come together as the engineer mixes it up just amazes me every time.
