Life & Work with Adam Mulvehill of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Mulvehill.

Hi adam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a welder. Had almost 15 years of welding in power plants and the railroad. Then layoffs happened and i had to start traveling more. My kids were getting older and I was missing key events in their lives. I took a pretty significant paycut to work in my home town and be home every night. My parents have always tried to push me in the direction of starting a business. My dad had two successful businesses while also having a full time job. Times were not getting any easier with the pay cut I took so it was time for a change. I did my research and homework and started Mulvehill Exterior Solutions while still having a full time job. We are a landscaping/pressure washing company that is slowly growing every year. We want to take the kids to Disney some day and realized my full time job wasn’t going to cut it. I am a one man show with this business but my goal is to one day make it a full family run operation and be able to hand it off to my kids.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been smooth. When you think you’re finally getting some traction, a piece of equipment breaks or prices of something like insurance goes up for no reason, but you figure it out and make it work. You HAVE to make it work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My business is a landscaping/ pressure washing company. I like to focus more on the pressure washing side because like I said, I am a one man show and pressure washing is more suited for one person then landscaping, but I still do both. Watching someones driveway or patio come back to life with a pressure washer has a “asmr” type satisfaction to it. The before and after pictures always come out great and when you see that 5 star review pop up somewhere, it’s very satisfying to know that person was happy with a job that I completed. I have “self diagnosed” OCD so its tough for me to leave a job satisfied with myself let alone the customer. I never want to have someone say “he did a crappy job at my place”. I don’t leave until the customer is happy. Thats how you get repeat business and thats how word of mouth travels. You could have 99 5 star reviews, the 1 negative one is what people focus on and i strive to never have that negative review.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
When I get to take my kids to different places or get them something special and see their reactions and the joy it brought them. I just recently saw a post on facebook that said “Good people don’t work hard just for money, they work hard for money to spend on people they love” Yes life isn’t all about money but being able to take my kids to the beach or an amusement park to make memories and see them smile is what its all about.
