Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Williams.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always knew fashion was in my bones from a very young age. I do think my mother influenced this. I designed many dresses that she then sewed for me during my teenage years. She also made all my bridesmaids dresses for my wedding. I was a textile design major at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now Thomas Jefferson). After graduation I took a job in NYC for a small sweater designer as their production manager. My next job was at Ralph Lauren as the women’s sweater yarn buyer. There I sourced yarn, supplied lab dips to the designers, ordered all sample and production yarn and made sure the factories received the yarn on time. My husband and I decided to move to the Poconos where we started our family, and we made the decision I would stay home and raise our 3 daughters. Over the years I always knew my dream was to open a small boutique and in my 50’s I finally did just that. It’s now been about a year and a half and I am enjoying every bit of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have to say finding a location was not very hard, there was a space on a new and upcoming street in our town that we knew I had to take. The only struggle was getting the permits needed in the timeline we wanted. But other than that, I really cannot complain.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about dot + jo Boutique?
My little store has lots of curated clothing, jewelry, accessories and home goods from mostly women owned companies and caters to ladies in their teens to senior citizens, sizes extra small to 3X. I like to think the vibe and pricing is what sets us apart. The goal is to stay in range where ladies can shop for themselves and their daughter or granddaughters and not break the bank. And… have a fun and welcoming experience while doing it. The space is decorated to hopefully make every guest feel at home. We have a very small men’s area (a table lol) including some t-shirts, accessories and my husband’s skincare line, Game Face Grooming. I have recently added eveningwear and prom to the store, an untapped market here in our area. We also hold events in the back of the store, shop and sips and pop ups with women owned business owners. The space can also be rented for small gatherings and meetings.
