Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Beckey.
Hi Haley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have dreamed my whole life about becoming a teacher. In August of 2018, I achieved that dream right out of college. I taught in a brick and mortar school for 3 years, and something was just off. Classroom behaviors were out of control, parents dictating every move I made, and students could care less about school. I felt so defeated from the first month of teaching. No matter how hard I tried, my best would never be good enough for the way education is structured today.
After those three years, I got a job at a cyber school working from home. Things were a little better being home, but there was still such a lack of respect for teachers and administration kept piling on the work to make effective instruction almost impossible. I was in my 5th year teaching, and I had been following a girl on Instagram for about a year who spoke to me when she was explaining “teacher burnout.” She felt it herself in her education journey. I felt everything she was saying so deeply. She discussed how she transitioned out of the classroom to become a virtual assistant, and I was intrigued.
Black Friday 2024, I listened to her on Instagram discussed how her program helps burnt-out educators become virtual assistants. It was a no brainer, I had to take the leap of faith and try something new. I purchased the program, and I launched my virtual assistant business March 30th, 2025. A year later on March 30th, 2026, my daughter was born. Two absolutely amazing days of my life.
When my daughter was two months old, I knew I needed to work hard to build up my business to not go back to being drained as an educator. I worked extremely hard while raising my daughter (with the help of family and friends) and I was able to officially take the leap of faith and leave teaching. In September 2026, I became a full-time virtual assistant, and I truly am so grateful for my decision.
I have met and supported so many small businesses owners since I launched, and I am beyond excited to continue my journey in helping support the fine details of a business so business owners can work on scaling!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey as a virtual assistant has not always been easy. I had to learn a lot about social media and essentially became a small content creator to promote my business. I did a lot of free work for many people to build up my portfolio, and there were so many months that I was not making any money from the business. I was investing in so many programs to try to build my skills, and there were many discovery calls where business owners said my prices were too high. I have felt defeated more times than I would like to admit, but I never gave up. I was working as a full time cyber school teacher, bartending on the side, and building my business all while being pregnant. The journey has not been easy, and I have many days I worry if this will work, but I do it all for my daughter and the peace I finally have in my life away from education.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Haley B., Virtual Assistant is Pittsburgh’s business backbone. I specialize in completing the backend tasks that help run a business. Whether that is creating social media posts for a business, checking through Instagram or Facebook messages for leads, or organizing files on Google or Canva, the limits are endless for what I can help with! As long as I can complete the tasks from my laptop, these tasks will get done promptly and accurately.
What sets Haley B., Virtual Assistant apart is the skills that I have brought from being an educator for the past 8 years. Communication is such a key skill in my business to make sure clients that I work with know exactly what I am doing to help scale their business. I make sure problems are fixed in a timely manner, so business owners feel at ease knowing their business is in the right hands. By being a cyber school teacher for the past five years, I have worked with many programs to help my instruction in the classroom. I am efficient in Google, Microsoft, and Canva. Lastly, I am a problem solver when things are not going the way they were planned. I had to be flexible in the classroom to pivot my instruction when students were not comprehending the material. When ideas need restructured, I am quick to communicate with my client to provide different perspectives to help find a solution.
Haley B., Virtual Assistant offers administrative support, business organization, and social media support. These tasks may look different for every business owner which is one aspect I am proud about with my business. I truly am open to learning new skills to help support any business, but I am also extremely honest in my skillset. If there is a task I do not feel I can complete to my full potential, I will certainly let potential business owners know. I pride myself in clear, open, and honest communication, and I will never change this when it comes to running my small business!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe the qualities of being open, communicative, and honest have helped the success of my business. I like to build trust from the beginning when talking to potential clients. Trust is something that I value in a friendship and a partnership. I make sure I am communicating daily with my clients so they understand how deeply I am invested in supporting their business.
