Hi Cara, Taylor, Chelsea, Talia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Four Hearts Pediatric Therapy really started with the four of us—four sisters, two speech-language pathologists and two occupational therapists, who have always wanted to work with kids. We’re one of six siblings (we have two brothers too!), and we grew up incredibly close. Today, all four sisters live in the same neighborhood, and we’re raising our kids together—13 cousins who are basically best friends and see each other all the time.
As we became moms ourselves, we started to see pediatric therapy from a completely different perspective. We knew firsthand how busy and overwhelming life with kids can be, and we kept thinking, What if therapy didn’t have to be another appointment that families had to squeeze into their already packed schedules?
That’s really where Four Hearts was born. We wanted to create something that felt more personal, flexible, and family-centered. Instead of asking families to spend their time driving to an office, we bring therapy to them—whether that’s in their home, at daycare, in the community, or wherever therapy naturally fits into their lives.
We love that we get to do this together as sisters, but even more than that, we love getting to support families in a way that feels realistic for everyday life. Four Hearts is really a combination of our professional passion for helping children and our personal experience of knowing just how much families are juggling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’re still very much a start-up. We only started Four Hearts a little over a year ago, so we’re learning as we go. There’s been a huge learning curve when it comes to all of the behind the scenes parts of running a business: advertising, getting our name out there, managing the business side of things, and figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
And then there’s the other full-time job we all have: motherhood! We’re balancing building a business with raising our own kids, managing our homes, and trying to be present for our families. Some days are easier than others!
Having the four of us makes the hard parts a lot easier. We can lean on each other, bounce ideas around, and problem solve together. We’re still learning every day, but that’s also part of what makes this stage so exciting.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Four Hearts Pediatric Therapy is a private pediatric speech and occupational therapy practice created by four sisters (two speech-language pathologists and two occupational therapists). We provide therapy for children in the places where they are most comfortable and where therapy can naturally fit into their everyday lives. That might be in their home, at daycare, out in the community, or wherever makes the most sense for that child and family.
One of the biggest things that sets us apart is that we really try to take the “clinical” feeling out of therapy. We want kids to feel comfortable being themselves, and we want parents to feel like they have a partner in their child’s development… not another person giving them a list of things they need to do. We use play, everyday routines, and the child’s own interests to make therapy meaningful and functional.
Being moms ourselves is also a huge part of who we are. We understand how busy family life can be, and we know that adding another appointment to the calendar can sometimes feel like one more thing to juggle. That’s a big reason why we created a mobile model in the first place. We want therapy to work with a family’s life rather than make life revolve around therapy.
I think what we’re most proud of from a brand perspective is that Four Hearts really feels like us. The name, the heart behind what we do, and the way we connect with families all come from the fact that we are sisters who genuinely love working with kids and who are raising our own families alongside the families we serve. We want Four Hearts to feel warm, approachable, personal, and flexible… not like a big therapy practice.
At the end of the day, we want families to know that when they choose Four Hearts, they’re getting more than a therapy appointment. They’re getting a team that truly cares about their child, understands the realities of family life, and wants to make the therapy process feel a little easier.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Probably the biggest surprise is just how much of our personal and professional lives have overlapped over the years! We’ve all worked in different areas of pediatric therapy and have had completely different experiences within the field, which has given us a really well-rounded perspective. At different points in our careers, we’ve even ended up sharing students on our caseloads without ever planning for it!
And honestly, families are always surprised when they find out that we’re sisters. It’s one of our favorite things to tell them. Then when they find out that all four of us live in the same neighborhood (and our mom lives there too) it usually gets a pretty big reaction! We joke that our neighborhood is basically one big family compound.
We’ve always been incredibly close, so getting to build Four Hearts together has been such a fun extension of the relationship we already had. We get to work together, raise our kids together, and now run a business together!
