Inspiring Conversations with Andrew Domanski of The Little Gallery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Domanski.

Hi Andrew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While the gallery in Chestnut Hill is only eight years old, the owner Andrew Domanski has been collecting and selling art for over 30 years. Andrew received his Master’s in Art History from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland with his study year abroad at the University of Pennsylvania. For many years, while still building his art collection, he was a management consultant working with many organizations globally including the World Food Programme and several other UN organizations.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been so much a matter of dealing with many struggles as it has been a learning curve; going from a working environment where there were many people with specialized skills to assist you to learning to handle the many aspects of running a small owner-operated retail business. While collecting and sharing stories of art is an aspect I enjoy and am comfortable with, other skills necessary for a retail gallery, such as finance, bookkeeping, marketing, creating an internet presence and social media, are not among my strengths and friends, family, and former colleagues have been wonderfully supportive and have been crucial in making the endeavor successful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Little Gallery?
The Little Gallery sells an eclectic mix of primarily American, French and British art from the early twentieth century to contemporary artists including works by Philadelphia area artists past and present. Along with the known artists there are some “mystery masterpieces,” good paintings but by unknown hands, that we’ve picked up over the years and are very reasonably priced for the quality of art. Some modern design objects and furniture are also available.

Pricing:

  • There is a very wide range of price of art and objects in the gallery, starting with some art and vintage posters from $20
  • From vintage posters starting at $25
  • To paintings starting a little higher and going up
