Hidden Gems: Meet Ekta Sem of Rituals Dental Wellness & Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ekta Sem.

Ekta, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I originally planned to go to medical school. I was fascinated by health, science, and the human body, and I always knew I wanted to dedicate my career to helping people improve their health and quality of life.

Everything changed when my grandmother passed away from complications related to a dental abscess. It was a heartbreaking experience for my family, but it also opened my eyes to something many people overlook: oral health is not separate from overall health. The mouth can impact the entire body, and dental disease can have very serious consequences.

That experience inspired me to pursue dentistry, but I never approached it as “just teeth.” I earned my undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University, completed a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences, and then received my doctorate in dental medicine from Temple University. Throughout my education and career, I remained interested in the bigger picture of health and wellness.

Over the last decade, I’ve pursued additional training in airway health, sleep-disordered breathing, TMJ disorders, and the oral-systemic connection. The more I learned, the more I understood that some of the most important conversations in healthcare should start with the mouth.

That philosophy ultimately led me to open Rituals Dental Wellness & Aesthetics. I wanted to create a practice that felt different from a traditional dental office, a place where patients could understand the connection between their oral health, sleep, breathing, comfort, confidence, and overall well-being.

Looking back, my path into dentistry began because of a loss. But that experience gave me a deeper appreciation for the role oral health plays in the whole body, and it continues to shape how I care for patients today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. In many ways, the road to opening my own practice was much harder than I expected.

I spent years building my education and career, believing that if I worked hard enough, everything else would fall into place. What I eventually learned is that clinical dentistry and business ownership are two very different skill sets.

One of the biggest challenges was having the confidence to build something that didn’t already exist. Traditional dentistry often focuses on treating symptoms, while I was passionate about creating a practice centered around the connection between oral health and overall wellness. There weren’t many roadmaps for what I envisioned, so there were moments when I questioned whether people would understand it.

Opening Rituals also came with very real obstacles. There were construction delays, financial risks, difficult business decisions, and even a commercial lease dispute that ultimately led to years of litigation. At times, it felt like every step forward was met with another unexpected challenge.

But those experiences taught me resilience. They forced me to trust my instincts, become a better leader, and stay focused on the bigger mission behind what I was building.

Today, when patients walk into Rituals and tell me they’ve never experienced healthcare this way before, it reminds me why the struggles were worth it. The challenges shaped the practice just as much as the successes did.

I think entrepreneurship has taught me that growth rarely happens during the easy seasons. It happens when you’re forced to navigate uncertainty and keep moving forward anyway.

As you know, we’re big fans of Rituals Dental Wellness & Aesthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Rituals Dental Wellness & Aesthetics was created from a simple belief: healthcare should do more than treat what’s wrong. It should help people feel their best.

We are a wellness-focused dental and aesthetic practice in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, designed to bridge the gap between oral health, overall health, and self-care. While we provide comprehensive dental care for the entire family, our approach goes beyond routine cleanings and fillings. We focus on understanding how factors like sleep, breathing, inflammation, stress, jaw function, and oral health influence the way people feel every day.

Patients often come to us seeking dental care, but leave with a deeper understanding of how their oral health connects to the rest of their body. Whether we’re evaluating airway concerns, addressing chronic jaw tension and headaches, performing advanced preventive care, or helping someone feel more confident through aesthetic treatments, our goal is always the same: to treat the whole person, not just their teeth.

What sets Rituals apart is the experience we’ve created. We intentionally designed the practice to feel unlike a traditional dental office. From our wellness-focused amenities and calming environment to our extended appointment times and personalized approach, every detail was created to help patients feel cared for, comfortable, and heard.

The thing I’m most proud of is that Rituals reflects exactly why I became a healthcare provider in the first place. It combines science, prevention, wellness, and human connection in a way that allows us to care for people more comprehensively. We’ve created a space where patients don’t feel rushed, where their concerns are taken seriously, and where they can better understand the connection between their oral health and overall well-being.

At the end of the day, I want people to know that Rituals is about more than dentistry. It’s about helping people invest in themselves, understand their health, and feel empowered to live well.

What are your plans for the future?
Right now, I’m focused on thoughtfully growing Rituals Dental Wellness & Aesthetics and continuing to expand what comprehensive care can look like in a dental practice.

One of my goals is to further integrate wellness services that support the connection between oral health and overall health, while continuing to provide exceptional dental care. I’m particularly excited about expanding collaborations with other healthcare providers so that patients can benefit from a more connected, multidisciplinary approach to their health.

I’m also passionate about educating both patients and other healthcare professionals about the oral-systemic connection, especially in areas such as sleep, breathing, chronic inflammation, TMJ disorders, and women’s health. I hope to continue speaking, teaching, and contributing to these conversations on a larger scale.

Long term, my vision extends beyond my own practice. One of my biggest dreams is to establish a charitable dental clinic serving underserved and refugee communities. Access to quality healthcare can change lives, and I hope to use what I’ve built to create opportunities for others who may not otherwise receive the care they need.

For now, I’m enjoying this season of building. Rituals is still young, and it’s exciting to watch an idea that lived in my head for years become a reality that impacts patients every day.
