Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Kimeka G. Campbell of Young professionals of color greater Harrisburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kimeka G. Campbell.

Hi Dr. Kimeka G., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I remember being in a church in Brooklyn teaching adult education courses. I thought to myself. I want to do something like this for real, for a living. I was already a teacher but I wanted to reach adults, under stand how adult work, and what kinds of approaches communities took to document and understand how their people learn. That’s why I became a doctor studying how adults learn in place and space. And i take this into my work today!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No it’s been a very bumpy road. Community work is hard! Where two or more people are gathered there are conflicts and we always need a way to deal with that. It’s the biggest part of the job.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Young professionals of color greater Harrisburg ?
