Exploring Life & Business with Megan Robinson of MeganSportsRD, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Robinson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for sports nutrition and endurance running began when I was a young athlete. I was fortunate to have a running coach who understood the importance of nutrition and recognized that I wasn’t eating enough to support my high school training load. Working with a nutrition specialist as a teen athlete helped me understand how proper fueling and hydration could positively impact my performance, recovery, and overall well-being. That experience stayed with me and ultimately inspired me to become a sports dietitian, so I could help other athletes understand the powerful role nutrition plays in reaching their goals.

As a distance runner for more than 40 years and a dietitian since 1994, my passion for sports nutrition grew naturally throughout my career. While working at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia from 2002-2026, I began focusing more on sports nutrition and the unique needs of athletes. I also worked with athletes at Diabetes Training Camp as a certified specialist sports dietitian (CSSD), certified diabetes care education specialist (CDCES) and running coach, helping athletes with Type 1 diabetes manage their blood sugars while exercising.

In 2017, I combined my experience as a dietitian, endurance athlete, and running coach to start MeganSportsRD, LLC, a private sports nutrition practice. Today, I work with athletes across many sports, from runners and endurance athletes to team-sport athletes, helping them use nutrition to fuel performance, support recovery, and reach their goals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My career began in the field of diabetes, but over the years, my work naturally evolved toward helping more athletes. I expanded my expertise by becoming a sports dietitian and studying exercise physiology to deepen my understanding of sports nutrition, exercise, and training, especially for runners and endurance athletes.

While my path into private practice and a career focused primarily on sports nutrition took longer than I initially anticipated due to family commitments, each experience along the way helped shape the knowledge, perspective, and passion I bring to working with athletes today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MeganSportsRD, LLC?
MeganSportsRD, LLC is a private sports nutrition and endurance coaching practice dedicated to helping athletes fuel their bodies, improve performance, support recovery, and build healthy, sustainable nutrition habits. I work with athletes across a variety of sports, with a particular focus on runners and endurance athletes. My approach combines evidence-based sports nutrition with practical experience as a lifelong distance runner, coach, and sports dietitian. Services include individualized sports nutrition coaching, race and training fueling strategies, hydration planning, recovery nutrition, and team or group sports nutrition education.

My practice is primarily virtual, but I do meet with local clients in-person (based out of the Philadelphia area). I do also offer monthly running coaching plans, individualized for runners to meet their goals of racing the mile to ultra-marathon. My running coaching includes the sports nutrition program as well, focusing on daily nutrition goals, fueling for long runs and race day nutrition.

I also specialize in working with athletes with Type 1 Diabetes. This population is unique with their fueling strategies not only to maintaining glucose in range while exercising, but to also provide energy to enhance their sports performance. I work closely with these athletes as a certified diabetes care and educator specialist (CDCES), adjusting insulin and food choices to help them reach their goals as an athlete.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Leaving Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after 24 years, was a significant and somewhat intimidating decision. I had built a rewarding career and valued the relationships and experiences I gained there, but I knew it was time to take a risk and pursue my passion for sports nutrition more fully. Stepping away from the security of a long-term position allowed me to dedicate my time and energy to growing MeganSportsRD, LLC and working more directly with athletes. It was a leap of faith, but one that has allowed me to combine my experience as a dietitian, endurance runner, coach, and exercise physiologist into a career that truly reflects my passion for helping athletes perform and feel their best.
