Exploring Life & Business with Marielle Mathews of Delaware County Center for Psychological Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marielle Mathews.

Marielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have worked in the schools as a special education teacher and school psychologist for over 20 years. As I worked in the system, I started noticing I was not able to provide the comprehensive and compassionate services to the level in which I wanted. This is how my private practice started because I saw a gap between the services I knew I could provide and what I could offer in the school system.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have worked both my school job and private practice for the past 1.5 years which was not easy; however, I was compelled to keep going and motivated by the feedback I was receiving through my private practice. Parents recognize when a psychologist is good at their craft. In working in the schools, I was building my experience and craft, and now that I am in private practice, I can thrive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Delaware County Center for Psychological Services LLC?
My LLC is a one woman show! I provide comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations and ADHD evaluations for ages 5-21. My evaluations are different than school-based evaluations because I answer the questions parents want to know. I go in-depth to uncover the root of the challenges to develop a more clear path forward. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is the gold standard treatment for anxiety disorders and treat individuals ages 12-30 for therapy. I work with the broad range of anxiety disorder including GAD, OCD, and PTSD.

Unlike other psychologists, I provide both evaluation and therapy services. Further, unlike many private practitioners, I have extensive experience working where children, adolescents, and young adults typically have the most difficulties- in schools. With my knowledge of the school system and the compassion I have for my clients, I am able to understand their struggles from a unique perspective.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Within the next 5-1o years, I don’t want to see any big shifts or changes. I want to continue to improve upon my therapeutic skill set as I continue to work with new and existing clients. I want to continue to provide a safe space for adolescents and young adults to come to support their challenges in life. Everyone deserves to have a fulfilling life, and I am here to help make that happen.
