Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Grover.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What started as just an idea quickly turned into reality. I stumbled across an old 1980s horse trailer for sale just 45 minutes away, and something about it immediately caught my attention. I could already picture what it could become. The very next day, it was mine!
Of course, buying the trailer was the easy part. Turning a worn-out horse trailer into a fully functioning mobile bar was a whole different adventure. With a lot of hard work, creativity, and the help of my husband, friends, and family, we completely transformed it from the ground up.
It truly became a labor of love. Every detail, from the live-edge bar to the service window and built-in tap system, came together piece by piece. What was once an old horse trailer became something completely unique—and The Wandering Tavern was born.
It’s pretty incredible to look at it now and think that this entire business started with an idea, an old trailer, and a little bit of “let’s see if we can actually do this!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the hardest part was definitely the fabrication of the trailer. Taking an old horse trailer and transforming it into a fully functioning mobile bar came with plenty of challenges—and a lot of learning along the way! There were definitely moments when we had to figure things out as we went.
Thankfully, my husband’s perseverance, along with the help of some amazing friends and family—and, of course, plenty of YouTube videos—got us through it. It really was a labor of love, and looking at the finished trailer now makes all of those challenges worth it.
Like any business in the hospitality industry, we’ve experienced some ups and downs along the way. Every event is different, and sometimes you have to think on your feet and adapt quickly. Fortunately, we haven’t encountered anything too major that we couldn’t handle. I think my years of experience in hospitality have taught me to stay flexible, find a solution, and keep things moving so that our clients and their guests can simply enjoy their celebration.
Every challenge has taught us something and helped us continue to grow The Wandering Tavern into what it is today.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Wandering Tavern. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. I like to ensure every guest feels like part of the family. The Wandering Tavern is based in the suburbs of Allentown, we proudly serve the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, milestone birthday, graduation party, or any special occasion we do the traveling to bring the party to you.
At The Wandering Tavern, we’re here to make your celebration effortless and extraordinary. We believe the bar should be more than just a place to grab a drink—it should be part of the experience and a place where guests gather, laugh, and make memories.
From the moment someone books with us, our goal is to take the stress out of planning the bar. We help with everything from choosing signature cocktails and creating a customized drink menu to determining how much alcohol to purchase. On the day of the event, we arrive ready to handle the setup, service, and cleanup so our clients can focus on enjoying their celebration.
Whether we’re serving from our converted horse trailer, setting up our wooden portable bar, or bartending at a venue’s existing bar, we bring the same level of care and hospitality to every event. We love adding those personal touches that make each celebration feel unique to the people we’re celebrating.
For us, The Wandering Tavern is about more than serving great drinks. It’s about bringing people together and creating an atmosphere where everyone can relax, celebrate, and enjoy the moment.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are definitely a lot of people who deserve credit for helping The Wandering Tavern become what it is today. First and foremost, my husband. From the very beginning, he believed in my idea and was right there beside me helping turn an old horse trailer into the bar I had envisioned. His perseverance, hard work, and willingness to figure things out along the way played a huge role in bringing The Wandering Tavern to life.
Our friends and family also deserve so much credit. Whether they were helping with the trailer, lending a hand at events, offering advice, sharing our business on social media, or simply encouraging me when I needed it, their support has meant more than they probably realize.
I also have to give a tremendous amount of credit to our clients. Every person who has trusted us to be part of their wedding, birthday, graduation, corporate event, or special celebration has helped us grow. Their referrals, reviews, recommendations, and repeat business have been incredibly important, especially as a small local business.
And finally, the support we’ve received from our local community and other businesses and vendors in the Lehigh Valley has been amazing. Building relationships with venues, event professionals, and other small businesses has opened doors and created opportunities for us that I’m extremely grateful for.
The Wandering Tavern may have started as my idea, but it definitely hasn’t been a one-person journey. There are a lot of people behind the scenes who have supported, encouraged, and believed in us along the way, and I’m incredibly thankful for all of them.
