Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Hershey.
Hi Justin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in construction 24 years ago with my grandfather helping him with his contracting business. He did a little bit of everything so I gained a lot of experience in all aspects of the construction field. Once I graduated, I started in the commercial construction field for a large outfit out of Lancaster. Working for a large GC, a lot of time was spent managing other contractors so I was able to learn what they do as well. I’ve worked in multiple fields of construction over the years learning as much as I can, holding positions as a salesman, Project Manager, estimator, and even Director of Construction for a few companies. About 10 years ago, I decided to shift focus slightly, still remaing in the construction world, and I became a Project Manager for a Real Estate Investment company. Up until last year, when old co-workers and I decided to start J Hershey Construction and Home Repairs Near Me to help other investors, real estate agents and homeowners have access to more affordable renovations without sacrificing quality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a long time coming, but just haven’t had the guts to go out on my own, I always relied on what I thought was the security of working for another company. Eventually, I realized the true security in a career is being able to work for yourself so you hold the reigns to the security. Of course there are times where you may feel like you need to go into panic mode for work but that just raises your drive to do better. I have been extremely lucky to have built a network of amazing friends in the same industry before starting the company and that network has truly shown to be amazing. We receive consistent calls on a weekly basis with clients saying, “so and so said you were my go to for this repair” or “I got your number from so and so and they said you are always their first call when they need help with a renovation.” So to go back to the question itself, the foundation for the company was laid before the company itself and the struggles we face, are the struggles we create ourselves.

My favorite childhood memory is being so close to my family. While our mom’s all worked, my 8 cousins and I would spend everyday at my Nan’s house. I still don’t know how she did it!
