Exploring Life & Business with Jessica Roach of Bridging Roots Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Roach.

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have worked in the field of Occupational Therapy for 21 years in many different setting, such as pediatrics, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation hospitals and as Director of Rehabilitation. Presently, I spend much of my time working with children that are in cyber school setting providing therapy virtually. I absolutely love working with children and watching them grow and have missed the hands on therapy sessions. In 2025, I started my own private pediatric Occupational Therapy practice working with children with coordination, sensory and handwriting concerns. I am also specializing in the are of remedial vision rehabilitation and am working to educate and provide therapy for underlying visual concerns that are often undiagnosed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are many challenges along the way with the biggest being educating the community about visual concerns in children that are beyond 20/20 eyesight. As with any private practice building the caseload is always a challenge but that also goes hand in hand with continuing to provide the community education regarding the vision but also for alternative options for children with Occupational Therapy needs.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bridging Roots Therapy is a private practice Occupational Therapy for children that provided mobile therapy. Therapy is provided in the comfort of the child’s home, which helps with scheduling and decreasing the need for transportation to appointment and for helping the child be more comfortable during therapy sessions. It also provides the unique opportunity of being able to observe how the child functions at home and work with family and caregivers to educate and provide hands on strategies for them to help their child grow outside of treatment sessions.

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a diverse profession that helps individuals build the skills needed to excel in their daily life. In this case the daily life of a child is growing developmentally and building the skills to function independently. OT often assists children with large and small body movements, hand skills, handwriting, vision, self-care skills and sensory concerns. If a child is demonstrating difficulties or might seem behind compared to the peers the challenge is determining what the reasoning is that is causing particular areas to be difficulty for that child.

Bridging Roots Therapy is specializing in educating and providing therapy for children that also have increased difficulty with writing, reading, hand eye coordination, etc. that are often a result of an underlying vision difficulty. Vision is not just getting a 20/20 on a eye exam or finding the right glasses prescription but can the eyes follow an object, can the child keep their eyes focused on one object for a period of time, can the eyes move across the line of a page without skipping words or loosing their place, are there letter reversals when righting. There are many eye movements, eye functioning, visual perception, and visual motor skills that are often missed or overlooked.
As an OT, I am certified and have the knowledge to provide rehabilitation to children with these difficulties while working on life skills and the activities that are difficult for them throughout their daily lives at home and at school.

How do you think about luck?
Luck on played a part simply in providing me the opportunity to be able to open a practice that I am passionate about and be able to help children and their families overcome challenging obstacles.
