Exploring Life & Business with Heidi Lane of The Petal Parcel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Lane.

Hi Heidi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After working in the handcrafted jewelry industry for nearly a decade, I took a leap of faith one day and left my long term job with no plan. I started working at a flower shop the next day and absolutely loved it. It wasn’t sustainable for income so I went and worked at a dental office for 6 months as I built my business. I opened The Petal Parcel in my garage August of 2023!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has, of course, not been easy. I went from a fairly high salaried job to nothing, causing a ton of challenges financially and mentally. You have to be very disciplined when you own your own business. I had to create many processes and systems that worked for my business. And also, I had practically no training. I had to train myself with trial and error and I’m still learning as well as still perfecting my systems.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Petal Parcel is a feel good floral brand. It is a welcoming flower shop in Williamsport. We specialize in creating unmistakable floral art! We get fresh florals daily not using any older flowers to ensure long vase life. We provide a customer service that is kind, easy, and fun! We deliver on time and with a smile. It is through and through the most fun job. (Most days!)

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Do it. Close your eyes and jump. It’s terrifying to take a risk, but you always should. There has never once been a decision that I made that led to a dead end. These experiences, efforts, and decisions all led into something bigger or I learned from it.

Shamelessly market yourself. You have to show your face on advertising and social media. People want to support a PERSON. They want to know you, your family, and what you’re passions are besides work. They will feel confident spending money with you or referring you when it comes time.
