Exploring Life & Business with Grace Cousins of Grace Ryan Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Cousins.

Hi Grace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Grace Ryan Designs started from a love of creativity, beautiful details, and the idea that thoughtful design can make an ordinary moment feel really special. What began as a passion for creating and bringing ideas to life gradually grew into a business built around helping others create spaces and experiences that feel uniquely their own.
As Grace Ryan Designs has grown, so has the vision behind it. Every project has been an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with wonderful people along the way. Today, the business is a reflection of that journey — combining creativity, personal touches, and a genuine passion for creating beautiful designs that feel meaningful and intentional.

I’m incredibly grateful for how far Grace Ryan Designs has come and excited for everything still ahead. What started with a passion has grown into something I’m truly proud to call my own.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what has made the journey so meaningful. I started Grace Ryan Designs during a season of a lot of change in my life. Along the way, I moved, raised my two young children, and experienced many different life changes and events that required me to constantly adapt and find a new balance.
Building a business while raising a family came with its own set of challenges. There were times when life felt overwhelming, and I had to put certain things on hold or simply take things one day at a time. Learning how to grow a business while also being present for my children taught me a lot about patience, resilience, and trusting the process.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Grace Ryan Designs is something that has grown and evolved right alongside me. It started from my love of creativity and design, but over the years it has become so much more than just a business. It has given me the opportunity to do something I truly love while also creating a life that allows me to be there for my two children.
One of my favorite things about what I do is that no two projects have to be the same. I love creating fun, unique, and completely personalized pieces for my clients. One day I might be working on a custom painting, and another project might involve creating a mural for someone’s living space. I love taking someone’s idea, personality, or vision and turning it into something they can actually see and enjoy in their own home. Those projects are especially rewarding because they become a part of someone’s everyday life.

What makes Grace Ryan Designs special to me is that it has never been built under perfect circumstances. I’ve grown this business through moves, raising two young children, and many different seasons and changes in my life. There have been plenty of challenges and moments when I’ve had to figure things out as I went, but I’ve continued to find a way to make it work.

I think that is what I’m most proud of when I look at my brand. I’m proud that I’ve been able to keep growing and pursuing something I love while still making my children a priority. Being a mom is one of the most important parts of who I am, and having a business that allows me the flexibility to be present for my kids while also giving me a creative outlet and something that is my own means so much to me.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I loved using my imagination and could spend hours creating little worlds and spaces around me.
I was always making things. I loved playing in my dollhouse and rearranging the rooms, turning my closet into a little library, and creating spaces in my playhouse outside. I would rearrange my room, clean, organize, and set things up just because I enjoyed making a space feel a certain way. Looking back, I can see how naturally design and creativity came to me even before I realized it could become something I would do as an adult.

Some of my favorite memories are simply being outside with my sisters, playing in the yard and making things together. There was honestly nowhere I would rather be than with them. I also loved creating with my mom, drawing, and working on little projects together. I think those experiences really shaped the creative side of who I am today.

When I look back at that little girl who was constantly rearranging rooms, drawing, building imaginary spaces, and finding ways to make things beautiful, I realize she was already showing me what I would love to do later in life. Grace Ryan Designs feels like a natural extension of that little girl — I’m still creating spaces, dreaming up ideas, rearranging, making things, and finding joy in bringing something from my imagination into the real world.
