Today we’d like to introduce you to Saniyyah Bilal.
Hi Saniyyah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story started with a love of fashion. I earned my MBA in International Apparel Business Studies, then spent years working in styling and luxury retail. I worked as a bridal stylist in bridal salons, helping brides find their gowns and guiding them through fittings, and I also worked as a freelance stylist with clients on both the East and West Coasts. Those years taught me how a look comes together, from the first fitting to the final photo.
Working in bridal salons also showed me something. Brides who want modest styling often struggle to find a stylist who truly understands it. Many were told to choose between the look they loved and the look that felt right. I knew it didn’t have to be either/or.
That is why I started Weddings by Saniyyah. I’m a bridal wardrobe stylist and concierge, with a special focus on modest and hijab styling. I go shopping with my brides for gowns, shoes, and accessories, and help them plan the full wardrobe. On the wedding day, I’m there to steam, lace, pin, and handle any fashion emergency, so they can be fully present in the moment.
My goal is simple: every bride should feel beautiful, comfortable, and completely herself when she says “I do.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always. Building a business around something you love comes with real challenges, and a few stand out.
The biggest one was explaining what I do. Many people think of a bridal stylist as someone who only helps pick the dress.
A wardrobe stylist and concierge handles much more: shopping for gowns, shoes, and accessories, planning the full look, and managing the wardrobe on the wedding day. Early on, I spent a lot of time helping brides see the value in that kind of support, and learning how to price my services so they reflect the work and expertise behind them.
Another challenge was the lack of modest options. Brides who want sleeves, higher necklines, or hijab-friendly styling often walk into a boutique and find very little that fits their vision. A lot of my work is searching, sourcing, and finding creative ways to adapt a gown, so a bride never has to settle.
Building visibility was also a learning curve. Weddings are personal, and brides want to trust the person who is helping them. Earning that trust takes time, consistency, and showing up with real results.
Every one of those challenges made my service better. I understand what brides are up against, and I’m able to guide them with patience and honesty.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a bridal wardrobe stylist and concierge. I work with brides from the first shopping appointment through the last button on the wedding day. That includes finding gowns, shoes, and accessories, planning the full look, and being there on the day to steam, lace, pin, and solve any fashion emergency. I also style the bridal party, the groom, and rehearsal dinner looks, so everything coordinates.
My specialty is modest and hijab bridal styling. I know how to find or adapt gowns with the right coverage, choose fabrics that drape beautifully and stay comfortable, and style a hijab so it complements the dress, the veil, and the bride’s features. Brides come to me because they want a stylist who understands both fashion and modesty without making them compromise either.
What I’m most proud of is the moment a bride sees herself in the mirror and knows it’s right. I’m also proud that my work is featured in a creative exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, showing Muslim women in hijab. Seeing that styling and representation honored in such a meaningful space is something I never take for granted.
What sets me apart is the combination of experience and care. I’ve worked as a bridal stylist in salons, styled clients as a freelancer, and walked the runway at New York Fashion Week, so I understand fashion from every side. I also take a concierge approach. I handle the research, appointments, and details, so my brides can enjoy the process instead of feeling overwhelmed. Every bride gets honest guidance, calm support, and a look that feels completely like her.
How do you define success?
For me, success is a bride who feels completely like herself on her wedding day. If she walks into the room confident, comfortable, and at ease, and she isn’t thinking about her hem, her hijab, or her shoes, then I’ve done my job.
It’s also about the process. Success is a bride who felt supported from the first shopping appointment, who never felt pressured, and who found a look that honors her style and her values. When a bride tells me she felt beautiful and understood, that means more to me than any number.
I measure it in trust, too. When a bride refers a friend, or comes back for her bridesmaids and family, I know the experience mattered to her. And success is representation. I want women who need bridal styling to see herself in this industry and know that her vision belongs there.
Having my work shown at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture was a powerful reminder of that. It showed me that styling can carry meaning far beyond a single wedding day.
