Today we’d like to introduce you to Pottstown Area Artists Guild.
Hi Pottstown Area Artists Guild, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Pottstown Area Artists Guild was formed in 1960 by a group of artists whose vision was to allow people to express themselves artistically, to encourage art sales, and to promote art education and appreciation. The Guild has been fortunate through the years to have dedicated leaders to guide it through challenging and prosperous times!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Around 2015, the guild was in deep trouble and about to close. It took the courage of Judith Byrd-Williams, Don Havas, and a few dedicated volunteers to step up and continue the guild.
Today, the Guild continues that Mission with regular exhibitions, talks, workshops, demonstrations, and collaborations with local schools and businesses. Under the leadership of the new President Jeanne Petrosky, the Guild has updated its image with newly designed graphics, literature, and logo.
It maintains a dynamic online presence…. Website, Instagram and Facebook pages, an Online Gallery, and regular promotion of members’ artwork through exhibitions and social media.
The Pottstown Area Artists Guild has always been managed by volunteers, but in today’s environment, it has become more difficult to find people with the time available and the skills required to meet these high standards. Committees handle social media, design, exhibitions, finance, communication, hospitality, press releases, and much more, all overseen by Jeanne!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
She brings all the experience that comes from being a self-employed, full-time artist for 36 years. She hopes to expand the message that the arts are a vital part of a healthy revitalization effort.
What are your plans for the future?
Despite having extensive experience, collaborating with a team of volunteers is a new experience. One that she hesitantly and curiously accepted. “This team is dedicated, resourceful, and willing to try new things to not only sustain but also to grow the organization,” Jeanne Petrosky
Look out!
