Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Mulhollan.
Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had a deep love and affinity for animals, even from a very young age. It became so strong that my mother eventually stopped taking me to the grocery store—every visit ended with me in tears, determined to “rescue” the lobsters so they wouldn’t be cooked alive. I was equally outraged when other kids killed lightning bugs, and bringing home stray or orphaned animals was a regular occurrence in our household.
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a marine biologist or zoologist. Unfortunately, I was repeatedly told that I wasn’t smart enough for college. Believing that narrative, I never truly applied myself academically and didn’t achieve the grades I would have needed to pursue those paths. Instead, I leaned into my musical talent and found my way into the music industry. While I loved performing and had some incredible experiences, something always felt missing—I never felt truly fulfilled.
Years later, I retired from performing with hopes of starting a family with my husband. When we learned that we were unable to have children, it sent me into a deep depression that lasted several years. Yet, within that darkness, I found my way back to my lifelong passion for animals. They reminded me of who I truly was at my core.
That reconnection became a turning point. I chose to fully embrace my passion, learning Animal Reiki and Animal Massage Therapy, becoming a wildlife conservationist, and ultimately stepping into the world of wildlife rescue. Through this work, I found not only healing for the animals in my care, but healing for myself as well. For the first time, I allowed my authentic self to shine—not the version of me I thought others wanted me to be, but the person I had always been.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been smooth sailing. Animals—especially wild ones—can be unpredictable, and every situation I encounter requires something different of me. Many times, when I meet a wild animal, it is in a dire circumstance: frightened, injured, and highly reactive. In those moments, I have to rely on my training, experience, and intuition to determine the best course of action.
Things do not always go as planned, and some outcomes are not what I had hoped for. Learning that I cannot save them all has been one of the hardest truths to accept. Still, that reality does not deter me. Instead, it strengthens my resolve to continue showing up—to protect, advocate for, and save as many animals as I possibly can.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself a bit of a jack of all trades when it comes to working with animals. Through my business, Fairhaven Healing, I offer a wide range of modalities to support both domestic and wild animals.
Using my certifications in Animal Reiki and Animal Communication, I help companion animals recover from injuries and surgeries, assist with pain management, and relay important messages to their owners. I also utilize these modalities extensively in my wildlife work, finding Reiki and Animal Communication to be invaluable both in the field during rescues and in rehabilitation settings while animals are recovering.
In addition, I offer canine and feline massage therapy, which helps improve overall quality of life and supports older cats and dogs in regaining and preserving mobility. I hold a Capture and Transport permit through the Pennsylvania Game Commission, allowing me to respond in the field to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife across the state. Through my training and experience, I am able to stabilize these animals and safely transport them to licensed wildlife rehabilitation centers.
I also founded a Monarch Butterfly Conservation Program, where I raise and release Monarch butterflies and teach conservation classes throughout the state. A particularly meaningful aspect of this program is that every Monarch I release is named in honor of someone who has passed away. Community members are invited to submit the names of their loved ones, creating a deeply personal connection to conservation. I’ve found this to be a powerful way to engage people and inspire them to care more deeply about protecting these animals.
In addition to my conservation and healing work, I am a psychic medium and offer Rainbow Bridge Readings, providing people with the opportunity to connect with their beloved animal companions who have crossed over.
Over the years, I’ve become affectionately known as “The Animal Lady,” “The Monarch Lady,” or “The Wildlife Lady.” What I am most proud of are the animals I have been able to rescue and release back into the wild. Every Monarch I set free and every wild animal that gets to return home fills my heart with indescribable joy, and it is work I hope to continue doing until my very last breath. What truly sets me apart is the wide range of species I am able to work with, combined with the diverse modalities I offer to support them.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t know if I would call it luck so much as divine timing—being in the right place at the right time. I believe deeply in karma and in the idea of reaping what you sow, so I strive to focus on the positive and remain grounded in gratitude. Living in that state allows more good things to continue flowing into my life.
