Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Miller-Garlinger.
Hi Amber, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Comfort Project Foundation was founded in September 2025 out of two deeply personal experiences that shaped a lasting commitment to care, compassion, and support for others during life’s most difficult moments.
The first was the loss of my grandfather, a man who lived a bold and faithful life of service. His passing revealed not only the depth of grief, but also the importance of feeling supported and surrounded during times of loss.
The second was the experience of helping lay a beloved dog to rest, which brought to light how emotionally and financially difficult it can be for families to provide a dignified goodbye for their pets. That moment opened my eyes to how often people face grief quietly, without enough resources or support.
From these experiences, The Comfort Project Foundation was created with a simple mission: to bring comfort, dignity, and prayerful support to those navigating grief and hardship.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a nonprofit has definitely been rewarding, but it hasn’t been without challenges. As a new organization, one of our biggest hurdles has simply been building awareness. We know there are people who could benefit from our services, but reaching them—and helping others discover our mission—takes time.
Another ongoing challenge has been growing a strong network of donors, volunteers, and community partners. Every nonprofit relies on the support of others, and earning that trust and building those relationships doesn’t happen overnight.
While those challenges can sometimes feel discouraging, they’ve also taught us the importance of consistency, patience, and celebrating every milestone. Each comfort kit we send, every new supporter who joins our mission, and every partnership we build is a reminder that meaningful impact often starts small. We’re excited to continue growing and reaching more individuals and families who need support during times of grief.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Comfort Project Foundation exists to provide comfort, encouragement, and hope to individuals and families navigating grief. We believe that no one should have to walk through loss alone, and our mission is to remind people that they are seen, supported, and cared for during one of life’s most difficult seasons.
Our primary service is providing free comfort kits for those grieving the loss of a loved one or beloved pet. Each kit is thoughtfully assembled with comforting items and a handwritten note to offer a tangible reminder that someone is thinking of them. We also offer free prayer support through our volunteer prayer team, giving people a safe place to share prayer requests and know that others are lifting them up.
What sets us apart is that we recognize grief isn’t one-size-fits-all. We support individuals grieving both human and pet loss because we know the loss of a beloved animal can be just as profound and deserving of compassion. Everything we do is centered on creating meaningful, personal acts of kindness rather than simply providing a service.
Although we’re still a young organization, I’m incredibly proud of the community we’re building—one rooted in compassion, empathy, and genuine care. Every comfort kit we send, every prayer we pray, and every person who chooses to support our mission helps create a ripple effect of kindness. My hope is that when people hear the name The Comfort Project Foundation, they immediately think of comfort, compassion, and the reminder that no one has to grieve alone.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Without question, my grandfather deserves the most credit for inspiring this mission. His life, and the loss of him, shaped my heart for those who are grieving. He taught me the importance of compassion, kindness, and showing up for others, and those values continue to guide everything we do at The Comfort Project Foundation.
I’m also incredibly grateful for the people who have believed in this mission from the very beginning. Our board has provided guidance, encouragement, and a shared commitment to our vision, helping lay the foundation for the organization as we continue to grow.
Beyond our board, my family, friends, and colleagues have been an incredible source of support. Whether they’ve volunteered their time to assemble comfort kits, prayed for those we serve, shared our mission with others, donated financially, or simply encouraged me on the difficult days, each of them has played an important role in helping this organization move forward.
Starting a nonprofit is never a one-person effort. While I founded The Comfort Project Foundation, its impact is only possible because of the generosity, dedication, and belief of so many people who have chosen to come alongside our mission. I am deeply thankful for every volunteer, donor, advocate, and supporter who has helped us bring comfort to those who need it most.
