Today we’d like to introduce you to Pingping Li Fleming.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Pingping li Fleming, and I’m originally from Chengdu, Sichuan, China. I am a self-taught cake artist and the owner of Ping’s Cake Design in Pennsylvania.
My journey into cake decorating happened by accident. 15 years ago , while teaching myself English in China, I came across a Western baking TV show. Until then, I had never imagined cake could be works of art. Watching people transform sugar and fondant into sculptures completely changed the way I saw baking.
And I opened a small baking studio in China, where I discovered how much I loved creating sculptures. After moving to United States, I continued learning on my own, practicing whenever I had time and constantly pushing myself to improve.
What I love most is creating sculpted cakes that tell a story. I enjoy turning ideas, memories, and hobbies in edible works of art. Every cake is designed from scratch, and I love challenging myself with projects that seem impossible at first.
And yes, starting over in a new country wasn’t easy. Building a business while adapting to a new language and culture took patience and determination. There were many moments when I questioned myself, but I never stopped learning.
Along the way, I began entering cake competitions, where my work has received several awards and recognitions.
Today, I’m grateful to create custom cakes for local families while also competing internationally and continuing to grow as a sugar artist. My goal is to keep learning, inspire others, and prove that it’s never too late to follow a creative dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
Moving from China to the United States meant starting over from the beginning.I had to adapt to a new language, a new culture, and a completely different way of running a business.
As a self-taught cake artist, I didn’t have formal training or a mentor, Every new technique came through trial and error, practice, and countless hours of learning on my own. There were many moments when a cake didn’t turn out the way I imagined, but each mistake became an opportunity to improve.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a cake artist, and i create Luxury cakes. Every cake is designed from scratch to tell a personal story , whether it’s inspired by a client’s profession, hobbies, travels, or special memories.
I specialize in sculpted cakes, fondant artistry, and highly detailed edible decorations. What I enjoy most is transforming unusual ideas into edible works of art.
One of the things I’m most proud of is being a self-taught artist. Everything I’ve learned had come through years of practice, experimentation, and determination. Along the way, I’ve been honored to receive awards in several cake decorating competitions, which has given me confidence to continue growing as an artist.
What sets me apart is I don’t simply make cakes–I transform stories, memories, and dreams into edible works of art.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest isn’t just creating beautiful cakes, it’s the moment my clients see them for the first time.Watching their faces light up and knowing I’ve brought their vision to life is the most rewarding part of what I do. I love transforming stories, memories, and dreams into edible works of art, and seeing those creations become part of someone’s most meaningful celebrations fills my heart every time. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family, and finding inspiration in nature and art. Those experiences often influence my cake designs and remind me why I love creating.
