Today we’d like to introduce you to Kegan Hertz.
Hi Kegan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story started by growing up without a strong role model. My father struggled with addiction, so I had to grow up quickly and learn a lot of life’s lessons on my own. That experience shaped my mindset and taught me resilience from an early age.
Sports became my outlet. I was a three-time All-State basketball player, scored over 1,000 career points, and helped lead my high school to its first-ever state championship while also winning district and league championships my senior year.
After high school, I continued playing college basketball at Lebanon Valley College and later at Alvernia University, where I graduated with a degree in Healthcare Science. Although my journey as a college athlete didn’t unfold the way I had envisioned, losing that dream ultimately led me to discover a new passion.
I fell in love with self-improvement—lifting, running, and constantly pushing myself to become the best version of myself. That mindset eventually inspired me to create Get A Grip, a mushroom-powered hydration mix formulated with lion’s mane, cordyceps, and reishi to support hydration, focus, mental clarity, and steady energy.
Looking back, the two experiences that have defined me most are growing up without a role model and losing my first dream of playing basketball at the highest level. Those challenges taught me discipline, perseverance, and purpose. They pushed me to build something meaningful and continue chasing growth every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Navigating entrepreneurship. Building a business from the ground up is exciting, but it’s also humbling. There are days when you put in countless hours and only see small, incremental progress. Learning new skills, solving problems, and staying motivated when the results aren’t immediate has been one of the toughest parts of the journey.
I also think it’s difficult when you’re driven to accomplish big goals but aren’t surrounded by many people who share that same mindset. Staying focused and believing in your vision, even when others don’t fully understand it, takes discipline. But those challenges have helped me become more resilient and have reinforced the importance of showing up every single day, trusting that consistent effort compounds over time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, my primary focus is building Get A Grip while also growing my personal brand on social media. Through my content, I share my journey of fitness, running, discipline, and self-improvement with the goal of inspiring others to become the best version of themselves. I want people to see that success isn’t built overnight—it’s the result of consistently showing up, even when no one is watching.
I’m also the founder of Get A Grip Cognitive Hydration, a hydration mix designed to support hydration, focus, mental clarity, and steady energy. We spent 18 months developing the formula while I was earning my Healthcare Science degree. The product is third-party tested, contains no sugar, artificial flavors, colors, or additives, and combines electrolytes with three functional mushrooms—lion’s mane, reishi, and cordyceps. Today, Get A Grip is available on Amazon, TikTok Shop, and through our website.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just creating a product—it’s having the courage to build something from scratch. From developing the formula to learning marketing, branding, and e-commerce, I’ve embraced every challenge as an opportunity to grow.
What sets me apart is that I’m building everything around authenticity. I don’t promote a lifestyle I don’t live. I use the product myself, train consistently, and share both the victories and the setbacks. My goal isn’t just to sell a hydration mix—it’s to build a community around discipline, resilience, and becoming the best version of yourself.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The biggest piece of advice I can give is simple: start, and don’t stop.
When I first got into entrepreneurship, I made the mistake of trying something for a few weeks, not seeing immediate results, and moving on to the next idea. Looking back, I realized success doesn’t come from constantly starting over—it comes from staying committed long enough to improve and letting consistency compound over time.
I’d also encourage people to be intentional about who they surround themselves with. The people around you have a huge influence on your mindset, habits, and ambitions. If you don’t have people in your life who are pushing you to grow, don’t be afraid to spend time learning on your own. Read, listen to podcasts, watch educational content, and invest in becoming the person you want to be.
Most importantly, understand that progress is usually slow before it’s obvious. Keep showing up, keep learning, and trust that consistent effort over time will take you farther than chasing quick wins ever will.
