Conversations with Grace Fox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Fox.

Hi Grace, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I would love to. I started taking sports photos at my college Cabrini university and fell in love with it and love how people reacted to them. I have always been around cameras. My dad loves taking photos of the family so it would always be at events. After college I reached out to a friend from college who is very successful in photography and asked if I could mentor her and she taught me so much of what I know now. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her guidance and patience for learning the ropes. It is funny, I took a photography class in high school and looked at my teacher and said “I hate this, I will never do this in my life” well look at where I am not and I couldn’t be happier.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been easy but it hasn’t been difficult. I would say the most difficult side is learning the business side of it and if something goes wrong, it’s up to me to fix it and do what is needed in order to have a happy customer. I am grateful for my dad because he knows so much about the business world so I will be able to go to him for advice if I am struggling with numbers or how to resolve something the right way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a portrait photographer. I specialize in Weddings, Couples, Engagments and business marketing photography. I do a lot of everything like families, kids, Christmas minis, ballet shows and more. I have always tried to become the photography business that does a little bit of everything but my main thing is weddings and engagements. I have always loved the wedding scene. I have worked at country clubs for many years so I was able to understand what is needed.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is building a photography business that allows me to make a living doing something I genuinely love, while creating an experience for my clients that makes them feel comfortable, valued, and excited to work with me. It’s being proud of the work I create, continuing to grow creatively and professionally, and having the freedom to make my own schedule and build the life I want.

It’s not just about how much money I make or how many weddings I book. It’s knowing that I built something of my own, that people trust me with some of their most important moments, and that I can look back and say, “I really did this.”

Success is also showing up for other people, not just yourself. I have met so many talented photographers along my journey and supported them because this industry is so hard, there is enough room for everyone to get successful. I believe in everyone that is creating a business for themselves and I hope they succeed.
