Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Boote.
Hi Brittany, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path here definitely wasn’t a straight line. I grew up in a small city in Northeast PA & I ssigned with an agency on Park Avenue for television and film, leaving my high school during the week to audition & head out for go-sees in the city. That which really shaped the way I see storytelling, people, and imagery. Eventually, photography became the place where all of my interests—cinema, fashion, travel, and people—came together.
I also experienced a lot of loss at a young age, losing both of my parents in my late twenties within 3 years of each other, very unexpectedly. Photography and travel became a huge part of how I found my way back to myself, and I think those experiences gave me a much deeper appreciation for people, relationships, and the importance of preserving them.
Over the years, I built my business pretty organically, eventually finding my place in the luxury wedding world. Today, I get to photograph incredible people and celebrations around the world, while also mentoring and educating other creatives. This whole journey has ultimately been driven by my passion for people, personal expression, and a drive for freedom & creating my own little version of what success looks like.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly has been a journey. With any creative business or personal brand, you relentlessly hit these imaginary walls of doubt, imposter syndrome, fear, and endlessly comparing your work to the instant access to the industry around you. This is entirely normal behavior, and I’ve learned it happens at every level. The biggest part of being an artist, in my opinion, is the roller coaster of delusional confidence & crippling insecurity. They dance alongside each other, almost in sync, forever. It’s the dance that makes us grow, reflect, and ultimately be brave enough to go for what we want. Life being unpredictable, and loss, while certainly not unique to me, was a powerful catalyst for my journey and drive for what I wanted in life. My dads loss was sudden due to burglary in our home. So it was a complex grief that triggered a year of traveling the world, healing, and just trying to not lose sight of the fact that the world was beautiful and people are beautiful, and kind. I needed to prove that to myself. So I found myself in vans driving aross Morocco singing karaoke with Berber friends, watching kids in Africa run off their school bus as they waved to us going by, I rode mopeds in the rain through the jungle in Bali, learning I was way too bubble for Paris. A year full of experiences like this to navigate the harder times. So many adventures, so many experiences that filled me up & helped me find my path back to my purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I photograph weddings, but I’ve never really thought of myself as just a wedding photographer. I’m obsessed with people, their personalities, their relationships, what makes someone interesting and I think that’s always been at the center of my work. What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built a career where people hire me for my perspective. Not because I’m following a particular trend or recreating a shot they saw somewhere else, but because they trust the way I see them and their story. That’s probably the greatest compliment I could receive as an artist.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I am as resilient as they come. I’m not afraid to fail & I am naturally generous, optimistic and adaptable.
