Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Mason.
Brett, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a creative individual as long as I can remember. As a kid it was usually about drawing, making videos, playing with Legos..my wheels are always turning. When i got a little older I started playing/writing/performing music and then got back into visual art. I follow inspiration and look for potential, so there’s really no telling where that may take me..there’s no guide or rule book to following inspiration, it’s organic and fickle.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think struggles are a relative idea and state of mind. It’s a matter of perspective. Anything that has a big reward takes discomfort and a lot of work. People generally don’t do anything special or highly rewarding without a good bit of struggle..you have to just roll with it and expect it. I run long distance races.. we do them because they’re hard, but that’s why we cherish the finish..when you finish a hundred miles on foot, you learn a few things. If we wanted easy we would go walk around the mall but how much will that change you? You certainly won’t remember it in twenty years..
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in a few mediums but spend a good amount of time painting in oil and watercolor. I’ve run the gamut of subject matter from plein air landscapes and street scenes to emotionally evocative, expressions based on my personal experiences and relationships.
What does success mean to you?
I think ultimately I aim to continue following my passions. If my creative work seems to continually connect with new audiences, I feel successful.
