Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Garcia.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in the beauty industry started about eight years ago when I first began doing makeup. What started as something I simply loved doing slowly grew into something I knew I wanted to pursue as a career. I’ve always loved the creativity that comes with beauty, but even more than that, I’ve loved the way it can make someone feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin.
Like many people, I’ve experienced challenges and difficult seasons throughout my life, and those experiences have shaped the person I am today. They taught me the importance of self-care, resilience, and taking time to care for both your physical and mental well-being. Because of that, mental health is something that is very important to me, and it has become a meaningful part of how I approach my work.
As I continued doing makeup, my interest naturally grew into skincare and esthetics. I wanted to understand more about skin, learn how to properly care for it, and be able to offer people more than just beauty services—I wanted to create an experience where people could relax, recharge, and take time for themselves. Whether it’s a facial, a lash lift, waxing service, or makeup application, I believe these moments of self-care can make a real difference in how someone feels, both inside and out.
That passion led me to Annie’s Beauty Academy, where I pursued my esthetics education and took the next step toward turning something I loved into a career. Since graduating, I’ve been fortunate enough to begin building my career as an esthetician and makeup artist, offering services like facials, waxing, lash lifts and tints, brow services, and makeup. Every client, new experience, and opportunity has helped me grow—not only professionally, but personally as well.
I’m still early in my journey, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come. I’m excited to continue learning, growing my clientele, building my brand, and creating an experience where people feel comfortable, cared for, and confident. One of my favorite parts of this career is knowing that I get to help people feel good about themselves, even if it’s just for a little while. What started eight years ago with a love for makeup has grown into something much bigger—a career centered around creativity, connection, self-care, and helping others feel their best.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. There have been seasons in my life where I’ve had to overcome a lot personally, including struggles with my mental health and the grief that comes with losing people and going through difficult changes. There were times when I felt really lost and wasn’t sure what direction my life was supposed to take.
Before pursuing esthetics, I was a teacher, and while I loved many aspects of that chapter of my life, I reached a point where I was struggling with depression and knew that something needed to change. Making the decision to start over and pursue an entirely different career was honestly terrifying. I had spent years building one path for myself, so walking away from it and starting at the beginning again came with a lot of fear, uncertainty, and self-doubt.
Going back to school also wasn’t easy. I had to work multiple jobs while attending esthetics school to support myself, which meant balancing work, school, and everything else life was asking of me at the same time. There were definitely moments when I questioned whether I was making the right decision or wondered if I could actually make it work.
Looking back, those challenges have become a really important part of my story. They taught me that starting over isn’t failing, and that sometimes you have to be willing to step outside of what is comfortable to create a life that feels more aligned with who you are. My own experiences with mental health have also made me much more passionate about self-care and creating a space where my clients can take a moment for themselves. I know that a facial, a makeup appointment, or any beauty service isn’t going to fix what someone is going through, but I do believe that having a safe space to relax, feel cared for, and reconnect with yourself can mean something.
I’m still growing and figuring things out, but I’m proud of myself for continuing to move forward even when I was scared. The road hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has played a part in getting me to where I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an esthetician and makeup artist, and my work really centers around helping people feel confident, comfortable, and cared for. I offer a variety of esthetic services including customized facials, back facials, waxing, lash lifts and tints, brow services, and makeup. I also have a special love for makeup, which is where my journey in the beauty industry originally began about eight years ago.
As an esthetician, I’m especially passionate about skincare and creating personalized experiences for my clients. I don’t believe that beauty or skincare should be one-size-fits-all. Everyone’s skin, lifestyle, and goals are different, so I enjoy taking the time to understand what each client needs and helping them create a routine and experience that works for them.
Something I hope I become known for is making people feel comfortable. I want my clients to feel like they can walk through the door exactly as they are and leave feeling a little more confident and refreshed. Because of my own experiences with mental health and the importance of self-care in my life, I see what I do as being about more than just beauty. Sometimes an appointment is simply a chance for someone to slow down, take a breath, and do something for themselves.
What I’m most proud of is having the courage to completely change direction in my life and build a career around something I genuinely love. I started in makeup, became an esthetician, and am continuing to grow and learn every day. I’m also proud that I’ve been able to turn some of the difficult experiences I’ve gone through into something positive by creating a space where other people can feel cared for and confident.
I think what sets me apart is the combination of my creativity, my passion for education, and the genuine connection I try to build with every client. I’m always looking for ways to improve my skills and learn something new, but I also never want to lose the personal side of what I do. For me, beauty is not about making someone feel like they need to change who they are—it’s about helping them feel good about themselves exactly as they are.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Since I’m still relatively new to my career as an esthetician, I think the next 5–10 years will be a really exciting time for me personally and professionally. There is so much to learn in this industry, and I don’t ever want to stop growing. I see myself continuing to perfect the services I already offer while also investing in continuing education and learning new techniques and services that I can eventually bring to my clients.
I also think the industry will continue moving toward more personalized skincare and treatments. Clients are becoming more educated about their skin and are looking for services and routines that are specifically tailored to their individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I think education, customization, and overall wellness will continue to be a big part of where esthetics is headed.
One of my biggest goals for the future is to eventually earn my Esthetics Teacher certification. I was a teacher before becoming an esthetician, and although I chose a different career path, my love for teaching never completely went away. I would love to eventually combine both parts of my career—my passion for esthetics and my passion for teaching—and help educate the next generation of estheticians.
For me, the next 5–10 years aren’t just about growing a business. They’re about continuing to grow as a professional, staying curious, never becoming complacent, and finding new ways to share what I learn with others. I’m excited to see where the industry takes me and how I can continue to evolve with it.
