Hi Robin Abel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Opening in 2015, our store has gone through so many changes. From new business learning, to a pandemic, to ownership change, it’s been a lot for this locally owned small business. Current owners Sanders and Abel are transplants to the area who have loved setting down roots and sharing life in the Zelienople community. They purchased the store 3 years ago when the founding owners retired and have worked to keep moving the store forward. They work to understand what people are buying, how to stay relevant, what the community is looking for, and how to grow.
At the core, the goal has always been to serve our community and offer creative ways to make your home special.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Walking into an existing business is like drinking through a fire hose. You didn’t build the systems or know why things happen so learning it all is overwhelming. Current owners spent months simply learning from the entire staff who continued and patiently trained and explained the whys and hows. Eventually, the team came together to move forward in a consistent manor. Making changes and improvements that were important for the health of the business and in ways customers wanted. The community is so kind to share words of encouragement and joy at path The Perfect Piece is forging.
But also, the last few years has been very difficult to small businesses. Economy, gas prices, inflation and a never ending list of issues for small businesses to learn from and adapt. Small business is not often where you work to get rich but you work hard every day to support your community.

The Perfect Piece Store is reimagining resale every day. It’s a place to be inspired through products and design. Each area is designed like a room in your home, showing customers not only furniture they might want to purchase but also how to decorate and create a home tell your personal story. While it is a resale store, it’s not a thrift store. The question that gets asked most often “Is this resale?! It all looks so new!” Purchasers look for like new items to fill the store.
