Today we’d like to introduce you to Olena Haviuk-Sheremet.
Hi Olena , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our story started with music. Both my husband and I are musicians, and we were born and raised in Ukraine, so music has always been a huge part of our lives. I was accepted into the Boyer College of Music at Temple University to pursue my doctorate in piano performance, which brought us to Philadelphia.
While I was studying at Temple, I had the idea of creating our own musical space, a place where we could teach, perform, and make music together. What started as an idea gradually grew into our music school. We began with just a few students, and over time, through word of mouth and the support of our families and students, it continued to grow.
Today, we have a wonderful community of students and teachers, and we’re able to offer instruction in different instruments and create opportunities for students to perform and share their music.
For us, it’s really more than just a place for lessons. It grew out of our own lives as musicians and our desire to create a welcoming space where people can learn, grow, and enjoy making music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges was learning how to grow while still keeping the personal, family-like atmosphere that was so important to us. We never wanted to become just a place where students come for a lesson and leave. We wanted to create a community where students feel supported, inspired, and genuinely excited about music.
There have definitely been moments when things felt uncertain, but each challenge has taught us something and helped us grow.

Sheremet School of Talents is a music education studio founded by my husband Roman Sheremet and me, both professional musicians originally from Ukraine. Music has always been a huge part of our lives, and our school grew naturally from our passion for sharing that experience with the next generation.
We offer private music instruction for students of different ages and levels, with a strong focus on piano and a growing range of other instruments. What makes us different is the balance between professional musical training and a warm, personal environment. We believe students should receive serious, high-quality instruction while also developing a genuine love and appreciation for music.
Because we are musicians and performers ourselves, we understand that every student is different. We adapt our teaching to each student’s personality, goals, interests, and pace. We also prepare them for performances, auditions, competitions, or more advanced musical studies.
I think what sets us apart most is the community we have created. We want our students and families to feel that they are part of something, rather than simply attending a weekly lesson. We celebrate their accomplishments, create opportunities for them to perform, and encourage them to grow not only as musicians but also as confident, creative individuals.
What I am most proud of is that our brand reflects who we are as musicians and as people. Our story started with music, and that remains at the heart of everything we do. We have been able to build something that combines our professional experience, our love for teaching, and our desire to create a supportive musical community for families in the Philadelphia area.
How do you think about luck?
We’ve been fortunate to meet wonderful people, find students and families who believe in what we do, and have opportunities that helped our school to grow.
Moving to the Philadelphia area and building our lives here also brought unexpected opportunities. Some things happened because of timing or circumstances that were beyond our control, while other things came from simply being willing to take a chance and try something new.
There have also been moments when things didn’t work out the way we hoped, but those experiences often led us in a different and ultimately better direction. So I would say luck has opened some doors for us, but hard work, persistence, and being willing to recognize and act on those opportunities have been just as important.
