Today we’d like to introduce you to Ni Ho.
Hi Ni, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While growing up in Vietnam, I lived with my cousin and would occasionally work at her salon. I observed the nail technicians and became interested in learning. Then while in college to study accounting, I worked part time doing nails. Once I graduated from college in Vietnam, I took a break from nails. When in college, I met my husband and we had a plan to come to America. In America, my accounting degree from Vietnam was not transferable and I needed a way to make money as I had an infant son. We moved to Pennsylvania and I tried to find a job which was difficult. I decided to give nails another shot. My sister in law had a friend who suggested I go to school for nails and learn the language (English). My first job was New Jersey and the owner was American, she taught me a lot about the language. Then, I switched salons (Newtown Square) and did not ever think I would ever own a salon. I met a young girl named Alli and she encouraged me to live the american dream and open my own salon. As the years passed I that Alli was right and I could create something special based on my experience. Alli introduced me to people that helped this dream come true. An opportunity presented itself for me to open a salon in Wayne, PA and I went for it. Alli is still my customer and most importantly my friend.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, I was opening my salon 6 months pregnant with my son.
