Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya Hamm Wilson.
Hi LaToya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into becoming a maternal mental health therapist really began in 2020. It was a season when so many women were struggling under the weight of motherhood, and I was experiencing that in my own life, too. I remember feeling overwhelmed as I navigated homeschooling, parenting, work, and managing my own mental health. It made me realize how easy it is to lose yourself while trying to make sure everyone else is okay. That season changed me personally, but it also changed the direction of my career. I began thinking more deeply about what mothers need emotionally and psychologically, beyond simply getting through the day. I realized there was a real need for mental health support that centered the woman, not just her role as a mother. That realization ultimately led me to focus my work on maternal mental health and eventually create the Motherhood Redefined platform.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a business while parenting has been incredibly rewarding, but it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to navigate entrepreneurship without any formal business training while balancing all of the other responsibilities that come with being a wife and working mother.
There’s been a lot of learning as I go, from figuring out the business side of things and making strategic decisions to learning how to manage my time and energy across all of these different roles. There have definitely been seasons where I’ve felt stretched thin and questioned whether I was doing enough.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Motherhood Redefined?
Motherhood Redefined is a mental health platform created specifically for mothers at every stage of their motherhood journey. We support women emotionally and psychologically, whether they’re adjusting to motherhood for the first time, navigating the demands of raising young children, or finding themselves again as their children grow older.
What sets Motherhood Redefined apart is that we don’t look at maternal mental health through a diagnosis alone. We focus on the whole woman, recognizing that motherhood can bring challenges around identity, burnout, overwhelm, relationships, boundaries, loneliness, guilt, grief, self-worth, ambition, and the constant pressure to be everything to everyone.
What I’m most proud of is how quickly the platform has grown and, more importantly, the community and conversations we’ve created around the maternal mental health. We’re helping women feel less alone in their experiences and challenging the narrative that being a good mother you have to neglect yourself.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think one of the most important qualities behind my success is my resilience. Building a business, being a mother, and working as a therapist has taught me how to keep going even when things don’t go according to plan. I’ve learned to adapt, learn from challenges, and stay connected to the bigger vision, even when the path looks different than I expected.
