Community Highlights: Meet KRISTLE SMALL of Kristle J Small Counseling Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to KRISTLE SMALL.

Hi KRISTLE, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my career in mental health at the early age of 23. I graduated from Temple University in 2011 with a masters degree in counseling psychology. I always had a passion for helping people with depression and anxiety as I have struggled with it myself in the past. I began to work as a mental health therapist for community centers in Philadelphia and I noticed the need to help diverse communities with mental and emotional wellness. As I developed during this time I became a licensed professional and began to work for a variety of mental health companies. Overtime, I began my own private practice and to treat individuals, families and couples from diverse backgrounds. This eventually grew into a group practice where I could help multi-cultural groups access mental health care. My passion is to help individuals and communities manage their mental health issues and develop a sense of purpose and resiliency.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. It has not been a smooth road. During my career I have battled grief/loss, depression, anxiety and other emotional concerns. I have suffered with self doubt and imposter syndrome as well. I have encountered individuals and superiors who have not wanted to see me succeed as well as professionals who have not believed in my abilities and values.
