Community Highlights: Meet John Luskin Jr. of John E. Luskin & Son, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Luskin Jr..

Hi John, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our business began in the 1960’s after my grandfather learned the plumbing trade during his service in the Navy. After returning home from World War 2, he began moonlighting to build up his business. He then launched his business full-time and began working for many neighbors in the area. My father came along and joined in the 1970’s during his teenage years. My father served a formal apprenticeship ultimately gaining his journeyman’s and master plumbing licenses. My father and grandfather employed a handful of skilled plumbers specializing in plumbing, hydronic heating, and drain cleaning. They worked on everything from small homes to large manufacturing buildings, hotels, etc. By the early 1980’s my grandfather had semi-retired from the business while my father took over operations. After the sudden death of my grandfather in 1986, the business was left to my father. He continued operating the business. In the late 1990’s he scaled the business back to just himself and a helper. As my father started to age, he became more selective in the work that he took on. Fast forward to 2013, I joined the business my 2nd year out of high school. I was attending Montgomery County Community College for business administration. I then enrolled in the PHCC apprenticeship program. I served my 4-year apprenticeship, passing both my journeyman’s and master plumbing exams. In 2019, I became a partner in the company after continued growth. In 2020 we hired our first employee in 0ver 15 years. The business continued to grow over the years. In the fall in 2025, we hired a second employee as we got busier and busier. Unfortunately, we lost my father in February of 2026 to short battle with cancer. Today we operate in his honor. We hold ourselves to the industry’s highest standards, earning the trust of many homeowners, businesses, and local governments. Today we specialize in plumbing service and repairs, drain cleaning, water treatment, along with extensive underground plumbing installation and repair. In a world where private equity owned service companies are looking for massive profit, we are here to provide for our community with the highest-level craftsmanship at an affordable rate.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not a smooth road, like any business’, we face challenges every day. Working with family is never easy as opinions can differ highly. Also finding and retaining quality employees is a huge struggle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a third generation plumbing company. We strive to provide exemplary customer service and the know-how to get issues resolved in a timely manner. We are known for following through with our word and assuring customers are satisfied with our services What sets us apart is our attention to detail, we really aim to give customers the best experience possible. No one wants to have to call the plumber. We try to make the process as straight forwards as possible. What we are most proud of is how we are viewed by our customers, we receive many referrals from existing customers to their friends, family, coworkers, etc. What we want our readers to know is that always strive for perfection. We treat your home like it’s our own and we always aim to please.

What are your plans for the future?
Our plan for the future is slow, steady growth, Like the old saying, “haste makes waste.” We aren’t looking to become the next Fortune 500 company overnight. We are looking to carry on my father and grandfather legacy by doing what is right; treating customers fairly and keeping attention to detail.
